it sailed through today's vote. 10 to 1 supervisor sherman walton. you see, there was the only no vote, saying it gave mayor lurie too much power with too few details. now, i sat down with the mayor last week at city hall and asked him, what makes this strategy different compared to what city leaders have tried before? it's going to allow us to break through the bureaucratic red tape of getting shelter, mental health beds, more police officers, more case managers. it allows you a more flexibility in the money and that you can spend it. correct. and the board of supervisors still has oversight. it's going to help us speed up hiring. everybody understands that this is a crisis, and we have a first step in solving it. but what's different also is that you're going to see me out there on the streets day in and day out until we get better outcomes. he's optimistic. i asked him if we're going to see a tangible difference on our streets this july, or even by next year. the mayor said, quote, absolutely. and to hold him accountable if there's not a differenc
