that is where fox 5's sherry ly joins us live with the new details this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police say this unlicensed home day care has been shut down. sources say at least 20 children were being taken care of here and now police say an autopsy is being performed to determine what killed a 3-month- old baby here. the baby girl was found unconscious in a crib. police had received a call around 12:42 yesterday afternoon reporting an unresponsive child at the house on sapphire ridge place in bristow. the child was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. police say the preliminary investigation has not found any signs of foul play but they have yet to determine the cause of death. a neighbor would wanted to remain anonymous has a friend who brought her churn to the day care but police say it wasn't licensed. >> i don't know much about the family. i just know there are a lot of children that go in and out of the house, being dropped off and picked up. at one point, there were cribs and high chairs seen in the garage, not sure for they

sherry ly is live on the scene with the latest. walk us through what happened. >> reporter: first of all, i should warn people that this investigation is expected to take hours. people should avoid this area of connecticut avenue heading into work this morning. right now, you can see they've got the fire department here on the scene. also here as they begin to remove the two bodies from that burned- up car. montgomery county police say an officer spotted the car around east-west highway and jones mill road in bethesda just around 1:15 this morning. the officer ran the car's tags after something made him suspicious. the car came back stolen. police say the officer called for backup and continued to follow the suspect onto connecticut avenue headed south with the lights off. when backup arrived, police were about to move in when police say the suspect took off at high speed and as the car entered chevy chase circle, it crashed into a tree and burst into flames. four people were inside that car but officers could not save everyone. po

sherri ly joining us with the latest. >> reporter: the manufacturer sent in a voluntary recall. in some cases, metro tells fox 5 the batteries got sohood hot, the enquarter-- enjep started smoking. they were recalled because of a potential electrical short in the motor's lithium ion battery. and they trying to eliminate the problem. in extreme cases, metro said the battery overheated causing smoke and minor damage inside the engine and this is months after fox 5 reported a rise in engine failures on metro's diesel electric hybrid buses made by the same company. metro reported the problem in june after seeing an increase in some breakdowns in those buses and reliability. the problems with the cools system were blamed for those engine failures, and metro said it was working to resolve that problem and despite this, the hybrid buses continue to outperform the diesel-only buses. in the latest case, they will stay in service. metro said that they are safe and will step up inspections until the retrofitting is completed in may. and the buses are among 152 new hybrids ordered for $89 m

it happened at bethesda and dupont circle on the red line and sherri ly has more. >> reporter: they have one way in and one way out. when escalators go down in rush hour, it can be a big disruption. riders tweeted pictures to the blogs, and unstuck d.c. metro. at bethesda, writers performed hundreds as people lined up and pushing to get up the lone escalator. a fox 5 investigation in january found that bethesda's escalators are around the worse and one escalator went out and a sec was shut down and that left one escalator and that is the only entrance since metro closed the south entrance for escalator replacement last month and this morning, riders complain the police closed the north entrance briefly. metro explained it like this saying one of the three escalator his an issue this morning starting at 8:35 a.m. the technicians were there as they are around the clock, and reset the unit twice. tech also reversed the center escalator to provide ascending service, which would explain why entry to the station was briefly held topside by metro transit police; however, metro does warn that an

fox 5's sherry ly is live there with all the details this morning.d morning. >> reporter: good morning. this was a hit and run collision and it all started just about a block from here coming out of traffic signal. to change lanes as she came out of that when this were two cars racing around heren one of hem hit her and it ended here in a deadly crash. garcia's nissan altima rolled over landing on the sidewalk. she was headed eastbound on randolph road just before 4:00 yesterday afternoon. police say that some type of silver car struck garcia's. they believe that silver car was trying to catch up to a green and white mini cooper that it was racing. the 31-year-old wife and mother later died at the hospital. police want to find the two cars that were racing and they say neither one stopped. >> only three witnesses have provided information and we need to hear from more people. what they stated is that the dark gray sedan may have been attempting to catch up with a green and white mini cooper. neither one of those vehicles stopped. >> relatives say tha
