sherrie johnson is live with reaction. >>> that's right. there is talk in annapolis of a possible gas hike and one group will hold a rally at noon in annapolis speaking out against it. gas prices dropped more than $0.40 in the area in the past six months. drives could soon see some higher prices. lawmakers are looking at a proposal to raise tax by $0.15 per gallon and drivers would pay $0.15 a gallon more over three years. this means an increase of $0.05 each year. governor martin o'malley says he is considering a state commission's preliminary recommendation to increase the tax. he says it will help job growth if money is raised to improve the road and schools. government watchdogs estimate families will have to pay $500 per year if the gas hike is approved. >> to do everything in our power to create and save jobs, to support employers and to do, create an environment in which they can create and save jobs. >> this is time where the government should spend less, like we do and not more. >> the gas tax is not expected to come up in the spec

sherrie johnson is stands big with new reaction to the proposed gas tax. what are people saying? >> all this talk about a possible gas hike, may have people concerned especially when people are struggling during this tough economy to pay bills. one group will hold a rally in annapolis speaking out against it. lawmakers are looking at a proposal to raise gas tax by $0.15 per gallon. drivers would pay $0.15 more over the next 3 years. this means an increase of 5 $0.05 each other. o'malley is considering a preliminary recommendation to increase the tax. he says it will help job growth if more money is raised to improve the roads in schools. watchdogs with americans for prosperity estimate families will have to pay $500 per year if that gas hike is approved. >> it's a necessary evil. i drive the roads and replaced tires because of dings in the road. bridges are falling apart. >> this is time where the government should spend less, like we do, not more. >> the gas tax is not expected to come up in the special session this weekend but could come up a hot button issue. if the gas tax is

sherrie johnson is live at county school headquarters with more on the story. >> reporter: yes, we are here at the headquarters building here where a lot of important decisions are made about the school system. and this morning, the search begins for a new superintendent to replace dr. joe hairston. now last night, there was a meeting and they decided on a committee to create guidelines for public participation and find agnew superintendent. and many teachers and including the naacp said they want an input in the new hire. after 12 years on the job, dr. joe hairston says this will be his last year as superintendent. the board decided in a private vote more than a month ago not to extend dr. hairston's contract. he told the school board chair on monday that he will be leaving at the end of the school year. his contract runs out on june 30th of next year and there is a little difference of opinion. did the board decide not to offer dr. hairston a contractor was his decision to call it quits. >> it was my decision. and 12 years is unprecedented for a school system this size. there's only

sherrie johnson is here with details and she came face-to- face with the robbers? >> reporter: he she absolutely did. just terrifying moments for the 20-year-old woman after a brazen home invasion in windsor mill. she was attacked in her home jumps out of a second story window to escape the robbers. it happened yesterday morning at an apartment complex. two armed men with crowbars kicked in the victim's front door and she came face-to-face with the robbers and that's when she leapt out of the second floor window to escape. doctors are treating her. the escape led her to a neighbor's home for help. she asked her to -- asked us to hide her identity out of fear for her safety. >> a young leady was banging on my door and on the ground because she couldn't walk. she jumped out of the window because two guys were in her house beating her with a crowbar demanding money. she didn't have money and somehow she made it out the window. and banged on my door. >> reporter: now neighbors say the robbers may not have known anyone was at home since the victim said they made no atte
