first up, democratic senator sherrod brown. he's the lead sponsor of the china currency bill. he says china is bullying the u.s. on trade and pricing, and first off, senator, where do you stand in the very simple matter of votes? >> we're in good shape, with 62 senators voted for the -- last thursday morning, voted for cloture, in other words, to end the debate for tuesday's vote. we only need 51. we got 62. that, i think, obviously looks in good shape. there'll be some -- there was some pretty vigorous lobbying over the weekend. i spoke with senator sessions and senator schumer and senator snow about this. they're pretty confident, when they talk to other senators, that we'll get the vote. and this is really all about american jobs, as you said. we've lost hundreds of thousands, as many -- up to as many as 3 million jobs to china in the last decade. half of our trade deficit was with china. our bilateral trade deficit with china has tripled in the last ten years. what that means in laypeople's terms is we're losing jobs, most manufacturing jobs in places like springfield and

sherrod brown, elected in 2006, it is going to face probably the -- to me, the likely republican nomineestate treasurer. he is about 33 or 34 years old, a tireless campaigner, and is absolutely blowing people away with his ability to raise money. he has raised something like -- close to $4 million since he has gotten in this race, which is pretty impressive. i think this is going to be a race a real contrasts -- ideological contrasts. i think it is going to be one of biography. somebody like sherrod brown, who has been in public service most of his life, josh mandell, at his young age, has done two tours in iraq and has been at the state legislature and was elected treasurer in 2010. this has the makings of a good race. not quite there yet. but it is possible. we talked about missouri a little bit. i do think mccaskill does have the and state won as of the nature -- the state won because of the nature of the state. new mexico -- what seems to come out of both of these primaries -- sanchez has been able to raise some money. one of the things he brings to the table is he can also put some

states up for re-election next year and just as importantly to some to home state democratic senator sherrodrown who they say cast the deciding vote in the senate for the affordable care act. >> we're effectively issuing a referendum on them and their policies. and so while this doesn't directly affect of course their election, i think there's a strong, strong, statement that will be made by ohioans we don't like this kind of infringement to our personal rights. >> reporter: democratic opponents say this ballot issue is entirely unnecessary because of course the supreme court will be ruling next september on the individual mandate. we expect that to happen anyway. but they also say this ballot issue is so sloppily written it would have unintend and consequence of outlawing many medical rules already on the books in ohio. >> that's why the most conservative newspaper in the state, the dispatch right here in this town in columbus, editorialized against issue 3 as has every other newspaper in the state that has taken a position. this is bad medicine. it is bad news for ohio. >> reporter: polls
