it's true, there are a series of speeches by the two of them, also sherrod brown, dianne feinstein lastrats are positioning themselves to say, look, trump is in bed with wall street, and he's not as tough as we democrats would be. now, this may not be true, but the speeches are there. elizabeth: all right. so china's really watching that. let's get -- i'd like your reaction to defense secretary mattis and the story with syria. what was your take on all of that? >> secretary mattis represents in many ways the washington establishment. that's why he's praised so much. he's a solid citizen, does not go out of the box. president trump is a very different candidate when he ran for office. i was surprised when president trump selected general mattis. i think that the nickname mad dog may have been a little bit misleading. so i think secretary mattis' letter is quite accurate, president trump deserves a secretary of defense who reflects his own views. elizabeth: are you worried about abandoning allies in syria? >> i don't want to see the kurds be massacred, that's a problem. the kurds need mor

they needed the vote of democratic ohio senator sherrod brown who had gone home for his mother's wake, and he jetted back to washington to cast the final vote there on the stimulus package in 2009. there's a lot of action starting to happen now, i suspect we might know more in the next couple of hours. >> chad, question. at one point it sounded like the administration felt they could find money elsewhere in the budget. is that what mick mulvaney is trying to do? and secondly, is there any appetite for the house revisiting their bill, or is it really strictly up to the senate now? >> reporter: well, you know, it depends where this goes. first of all, the senate has to get the bill up. that's the first thing. and then see if they can accept what the house changed. that's probably not going to be the case because you need to have 60 votes. can they accept something a little bit different, put that in on the senate side, and then they have to zip it back to the house of representatives. that's probably why they were consulting with members of the freedom caucus. they're the ones who went
