if sherri redstone has her way, i think it's a year grace period, she can come in and push the merger with viacom. if that happens, the ceo at viacom would likely be the ceo. either way, it's not a very good deal. in the end, from what i understand, joe ianello still has a shot at the job. he still wants the job. we should point out a couple things about joe. his contract is ending in june, so they have to decide before then. what sources inside the company are telling me is that they are shooting, shooting for end of the first quarter, january, march, april, somewhere around that time, to get the new ceo, the permanent ceo. so that's where we are right now. it's kind of a status update. i'm saying that we don't know but it's interesting that we don't know this far in. it's already january. susan: cbs cleaning house. one executive after the other. >> i will say this, i think david rhodes is getting a bad rap for all this. i have known david for years. susan: well, i mean, the industry is small. >> full disclosure, i'm friends with the guy. very, very smart ceo, wherever he lands, that

they merge with viacom, will sherri redstone like the current ceo of viacom, she may want him running's a lot of let's say uncertainties and listen -- lauren: lot of plots. >> i can just tell you what my sources are telling me. they are having a hard time finding somebody. it doesn't look like they will have someone for awhile. for all i know, they got someone tomorrow if they are ready to say yes, i changed my mind, but as of right now, we are hearing no and that means joe ianello is in the pole position. lauren: what's the latest with moonves? >> he's counting his gazillions. i thought you would ask me about ice cube. lauren: he retweeted you. >> chuck d just retweeted me. let's go through this. i broke the story yesterday that said that ice cube was looking to buy the fox rsns, all 22 of them. lauren: regional sports networks. >> after looking for financing, he had approached viacom, and had pretty extensive conversations with the ceo, as we just mentioned. right now, viacom is not interested and what's interesting -- lauren: disney has to offload the sports networks. >> they have

under the terms of that other huge legal battle between moonves before he left and sherri redstone whotrols national amusements, remember they cut a deal where they would end all the court stuff, but he would have a year to possibly find another merger partner before they have to go with viacom. obviously if they can't find anybody, they could merge with viacom. one of the problems in finding a ceo other than the current guy that's in there, iannello, is they may merge with somebody. we know that. they are actively discussing it. they may merge with viacom. it's unclear that if you are chosen for the ceo job of cbs, you are going to be in there very long. okay? even iannello may not be in there. it may be bob bakish, ceo of viacom, who gets the job if they do merge. so interesting times. again, i understand it's thursday, they are keeping this under lock and key. i understand it's in l.a., it's on the cbs lot is the way it's described to me in l.a., on thursday. i don't think you can get in there if you're a reporter unless you want to get arrested. liz: i could use my old intern card.

including viacom, the other half of the parent company of national amusements which is owned by sherri redstoneactually wants the two to merge, right? cbs board blocked that. now it looks like cbs has a choice. it can either find somebody else going forward or it does that merger which is going to be incredibly insane because they will have at that point likely picked a new ceo, and redstone will have to figure out which one she wants, the current ceo of viacom running the whole thing, or whoever it is, including possibly joe iannello, the current interim ceo. that gets us to the second part. from what i understand, they are talking about the ceo search. they have interviewed, from what i understand, as many as ten potential candidates, between six and ten, i can't get the right number. when i say they, they farmed it out essentially to korn ferry, the executive search firm. joe iannello, so you know, has been one of those interviewed. that's interesting. they did interview the current interim ceo. he's obviously at the board meeting today. so that's another thing they have to figure out. here'

redstone's fighting each other and knows how to hire a good legal counsel. so the way you do that is through lawyers. so, what to make of her it's challenging because sherry's rise asks the question about sumner's capacity which is still technically an open question even though i think all of us here, like record the paper, he communicated that is through an ipad is a yes, no and i. we know that his long time friend, arnold coble said had a video of him earlier this year which everyone around him thought intensely to keep from the public eye. the wall street journal, i wrote a letter and filed a request to the court i think investors should know how he's doing and they tried very hard to block that. it probably doesn't look good. so what did i mean about sherry? people around her said she had a reconciliation with her father once the women were pushed out. i think it is possible for both that to be true and for him not to have capacity. >> one of the most fascinating parts of this whole thing is how all parties involved in this i think it was between sherry and the former ceo of viacom and the women that were his girlfriends thagirlfriendthat he gave $150 .
