i'm shery ahn. japanese prime minister shinzo abe has announced north korean officials have promised to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the abductions of japanese nationals by north korean agents. abe spoke on the results of government talks that ended in sweden on wednesday. he said pyongyang has promised to investigate the fate of all japanese citizens, including abductees and those who were allegedly abducted but not officially recognized as abductees. he said a special investigative committee will be set up based on the promise. he stressed that a complete resolution of the abduction issue is the top priority of his government. >> officials from both nations met for three days in stockholm. the japanese government says at least 17 people were kidnapped in the 1970s and '80s. five of them returned to japan in 2002. hundreds of other people are suspected to have been abducted by the north. as we just mentioned, north korean authorities have promised to launch a comprehensive fresh inves

>> hello, shery. yes, we are definitely having to look out for the very dry weather conditions because of a high pressure system located in central china, and low pressure located toward the korean peninsula, and that's kicking up the winds, and that's creating the yellow sand conditions. so we will be monitoring the system as we go throughout tuesday, and into wednesday, because it's going to create a haze, and some difficult breathing conditions, because of the yellow sand. meanwhile, we are looking out for this stationary front that is continuing to indicate the rainy season for the southern coast of china. still a real serious issue. lots of flooding, so far from the latest totals from this past weekend's flooding event, 15 people have been reportedly killed because of this rainy situation, and so it looks like more rain is on the way for that area. meanwhile, we have upper level low that's ushering in some colder air, that opened the door for the possibility of seeing some rain in the kanto regio

>> oh, shery, yes, this flooding still ongoing. it's very significant. and what we are seeing at least here on your monday or going into monday out here is some clearing skies. we're going to be looking at some improving conditions. still some scattered showers possible through the afternoon hours. but the big thing is, this is what it looks like on the ground out here for some areas of serbia, over towards romania. you already have that flooding in place. now all of this water is upstream. it has to go somewhere and eventually this is all going to be flowing downriver into cities like belgrade. you're going to be looking at some river level rise throughout the rest of the week. and there is still that possibility of more flooding. and already, several dozen deaths have been reported, thousands of people have been evacuated out here into the balkan peninsula. this is not just a problem for here, though. i want to show you some video out of southern poland where this same storm system caused some significant flooding over the past several days. bringing h

>> shery, i think so. we have been dealing in the southern united states with a lot of tornadoes and strong, damaging winds. and also hail along with very heavy rainfall. it looks like now this particular system is trying to exit the area. it is still a slow moving system. but it looks like the cold front is sitting right along the edge of the united states toward the eastern seaboard. hopefully it will finally clear the area as we head toward the weekend. i do want to show you some video that came out of the deep south from wednesday. this one is coming out of both pensacola and also into portions of alabama. and this is a lot of rainfall. 610 millimeters of rain fell in pensacola, florida, on wednesday. that flooded streets. that also stranded drivers. and, unfortunately, one person was reportedly killed by drowning in those floodwaters. these rains also hit parts of alabama. according to the national weather service, it is the worst flooding to hit alabama since 1997. as we go back to the maps here, her

>> hello, shery. the situation is pretty serious. the santa ana winds have really kicked off because of a high pressure system that's sitting right off the coast of california, and that's really driving up the winds. we have some video coming out of southern california. here it is. you can see the dramatic pictures coming out of san marcos, california, where thousands of people have been forced to evacuate across southern california as several wildfires continue to burn out of control thursday. now, san marcos, that's located in san diego county, hit hard by the fires as high winds fueled flames, pushing them over hills and near homes in the town. now, most schools were closed in the area and cal state san marcos was forced to evacuate wednesday. the governor of california has declared a state of emergency in response to the fires. now, back here on the map, i want to tell you how windy the situation is. 140 kilometer per hour gusts reported in southern california. that's very dramatic. very dry weather, very warm weather. so the com
