and thanks to sheryll cashin for writing this boat. i am going to say positive and negative things about the book, but one thing that i want to be upfront about is that this is a great book. you know, a few weeks ago attorney general holder praised justice sotomayor for courageous to cents. whatever you think of the dissent, it was not courageous. does not take gets for a liberal to defend racial preferences. the state gets for a liberal to say that racial preferences are maybe no longer a good idea. and so i tip my hat to you. i know it is not an easy conclusion to come to for somebody, you know, on the left. it is frequent, i think, for all of us to read a book or an op-ed column are something like that and say to ourselves, well, you know, i'll agree with the author's premise. i agree with the reasoning. there are a lot of good points and year, but i just don't come to that conclusion. reading professor sheryll cashin book was the opposite. i won't say that i disagree with all of our promises and reasoning, but i disagree with a lot

sheryll, was it worth it? >> absolutely. we had to dismantle jim crow, right? the decision paid enormous psychic benefits. in one generation we went with brown from being a majority of the country accepted racism to where a majority of the people absolutely reject that. where we've fallen down post-brown is we haven't built enough strong multi-racial constituencies for public integrated education. but i want to say it's not hopeless. the hartford area, which is very segregated res detentionly, there's a movement called the chef movement where all races have gotten together and said we like diversity, support it and created 31 magnet schools in that metropolitan area that enables people of all colors to access high-quality education decoupled from where they live. so there are strategies that work but you have to be overt at building constituencies for the right policies. >> ifill: but it is still true that if your school system is 80% black, you don't have the same resources as if you were 90% white. so is it because the world is changing or because the law did

>> sorry, sheryl. that was a little low blow. >> jared, this is amazing. the internet is the largest experiment involving anarchy in history. you are a student and a scholar and a practitioner of what is civil society and what is democracy and state. why is this anarchy? >> so if you think about the definition of anarchy in the context of international relations, it was coined in the early 20th century around the idea that even though every piece of territory on earth is or will be carved up into some kind of sovereign territory, the world is not governable in the sense there's no central leadership. and if you fast forward, every attempt that the world has made to try to create a global leadership body, basically been rendered ineffective which is one of the chj are challenges -- the challenges of international institutions. then you look at the internet with only 2.4 billion people online today, another 5 billion people coming online, think about the trouble that states are already having in dealing with this mass migration to the online world. you add a
