the other, shetamia taylor was shot when she was shielding her children from the gunfire. her sister will join us later in the program to tell us how she's doing. joining us now outside of baylor hospital is nbc news reporter tammy leitner. what can you tell us about the injured? >> lauren, still victims recovering and also there are a lot of police officers that have come to pay their respect throughout the entire day from the entire state of texas have come to visit their fellow wounded officers. some of them were here overnight. an emotional moment when they all lined up outside of the er bay and two officers who had been killed came through and saluted them to pay their respects. we learned a little about the three officers with the dallas area rapid transit or d.a.r.t., omar cannon, misty mcbride and jesus retana. we just learned that jesus has been released from the officer and other two still here but expected to make a full recovery. we talked to an er doctor and nurse who were here and treated everybody and told us the doctor described the scene as just chaos. he

shetamia taylor is now given life to her son for his second time. >> joining us now is shetamia taylor's sister. williams. >> can you tell me how your sister is doing tonight? >> she's doing well >> what about her sons, are they with her in the hospital tonight? >> no, they are at home. >> they were exhausted. they were up there early with her and they were all tired so they want to go home and rest. >> what happened last night, she was protecting one of her sons and then she was shot, so how was she taken to the hospital and did all of her sons go to the hospital with her last night? >> no. um, when the shots began, she got separated from three of them. it was a panic. when the shots began, she had eyes on two of them, her youngest and oldest. it got a little bit behind her but she did see the oldest grabbed the youngest and run into the garage. that was near by the location where they were. she lost sight of the middle age one, the 14 years old and the 15 years old by her side yelling out of her to see if she was okay. at that time, they heard the first bullet when they all scattered.

shetamia taylor took her four sons to take partner "black lives matter" march. a wounded officer urged taylor and her family to run, moments after the first shots. >> i wanted to make sure they were all in front of me so they start running up the block and i was running behind them, and i felt the bullet. i don't know if it bounced off the grounds or what but i felt it in the back of my leg. >> we hide between a car and a curb, gunshots, all i hear is gunshots. >> taylor expressed sympathy for the officers who lost their lives and says she is praying for them and their families. >>> one of the most visible faces over the "black lives matter" movement faces charges following a protest last night. >> what the [bleep] [shouting] >> police in baton rouge, louisiana, arrested mckesson who. he was charged with obstructing a highway. he is out on bail now. police arrested at least 200 during rallies in surveil cities nationwide. most were peaceful. >>> police in baton rouge arrested -- well, you saw the arrest of mckesson in the bay area people turned to their faith to

. >> reporter: 37-year-old shetamia taylor said she went to that protest with her four sons because she was upset about the shootings of two black men by white police officers and then she was shot in the calf, and it shattered her tibia, and that happened after she threw herself on top of her boys to shield from from the gunfire and says she is thankful for the dallas police department. >> i'm so thankful for the dallas police department and atf, i don't know who was down there, i'm thankful to all of them. they had no regard for their own life and they stayed with us and stayed with myst son and i'm so thankful for that. >> reporter: taylor and her sons shed tears at that emotional news conference and said she wants to see this community unified. we are seeing that unity in full force at this memorial set up at the dallas police headquarters. >> rick, thank you so much. we'll be following this throughout the whole hour in temps of the unity as we goo forward and more of those words from shetamia taylor. you will want to hear more of her story and plea thanking the dallas police office

and one of the victims, shetamia taylor, was shot in the leg while trying to protect one of her sons. she attended the black lives matter march with her four sons. she says she heard shots and saw an officer go down. as he was falling, he screamed at her. >> he said, he has a gun, run. and my kids started running. and i started -- i wanted to -- make sure that they were all in front of me. so they started running up the block. i was running behind them. i felt the bullet. i don't know if it bounced off the ground or what. but i felt it when it hit me in the back of my leg. my son andrew had turned around to grab me. because he's in -- i guess he turned around to see where i was, and he went to grab me. but i had already been shot, so i grabbed him and pushed him into the street. and i think he hit the car. and we ended up in between the car and the curb. and i just laid on top of him. police officers had started coming up the block, and one of them -- i heard him when he said, is anybody hit? my son said no, because he didn't know i was shot. and i was saying, yes, but i wasn't saying

shetamia taylor spoke to reporters at the hospital where she's being treated surrounded by doctors and her sons. >> so get this, would attend another demonstration to show her boys she's not a quitter. she broke down in tears while talking about the officers who came to her rescue. >> an officer jumped on top of me and covered me. they had no regard for their own life. they stayed there with us, they surrounded my son and i. i'm so thankful. i had never seen anything like that. the way they just came around us and just guarded us like that. >> taylor was wounded in her right leg she also broke that leg just below her knee. it may be up to three months before she's able to walk again. >>> well, president obama does head to dallas tomorrow to meet with the families of the officers killed last week. he'll also speak at a memorial service. >> the violence and its aftermath forced the president to return early from his trip to spain before leaving he said attacking police only hurts the cause of reforming justice system and responded to the protests taking place in cities across the country

. >> reporter: shetamia taylor, recovering in the hospital, was at the rally with her sons, her sister says shot trying to shield her boys from gunfire. >> she said as she started to run she caught a bullet in the back of her right leg. she immediately jumped on top of one of her boys, the 15-year-old. she jumped on top to cover him on the ground as she pushed him in between two cars and the curb. >> reporter: the sniper has been identified as 25-year-old micah xavier johnson. his words and his actions reveal a deep racial hatred. >> he said he was upset about the recent police shootings. the suspect said he was upset at white people. the suspect stated he wanted to kill white people. especially white officers. >> reporter: johnson's facebook page content reveals some of that rage against police. he liked a page which said, kill everything blue that moves. law enforcement sources tell abc news johnson was armed for his shooting spree with an assault rifle and two handguns. he'd served in the army reserve in 2009 until 2015 and did a tour in afghanistan. today police searched johnson's
