shirleen allicot is in the newsroom with the breaking details. shirleen? >> reporter: this standoff has been going on for at least four hours now david. it's created a major threat to the community as you can in place and as you mentioned, it does continue to affect flights at the airport. police say they were responding to a domestic violence call when they suddenly had to duck for cover. the gunfire coming from an apartment complex on branch street in the little italy section. this is less than two miles away from the airport. in fact the complex is located under the airport's approach path. right now, planes are not being allowed to land at san diego international but the departing flights are being allowed to take off. residents in neighboring apartments have been evacuated. other residents are being asked to shelter in place. >> at this point, we feel we have the scene contained and the suspect isolated. but what we don't want is people coming out of their homes half a block or a block down the street and coming out on the street thinking it's okay ou
