if you don't know who shirley alison: a huge celebration tonight for a special school in the district turning 50 years old. it is one of the top programs for children with learning disabilities. i was with my husband, peter, tonight, honored to emcee as more than 900 people came out to support the lab school. and recognize that bearded man? jonathan: alison: that is none other than david letterman, who came out to support the lab school and all they do for children. jonathan: a hero honored in the district today, shirley gibson. shirley gibson's son was a d.c. police officer murdered at random 20 years ago. since then, she wanted to do something to pay the department back, so she made it her mission around the holidays. today it was her turn, and they surprised her. the capital area law enforcement fund gave her a $2500 check to help with this year's meal. alison: and this is her last year doing it after all these years. jonathan: we congratulate her. erin: john wall got some help, but is there any hope for the >> and and now the toyota sports desk, brought to you by your local toyota
