shirley chisolm, first african-american woman in congress and beloved. nancy pelosi, of course. barbara mikulski who was my senator for many, many years, first female chair of the senate appropriations committee. and i wanted to recognize representative louise slaughter, first female chair of the powerful house rules committee who passed away last week while she was still a member of congress and i believe her funeral is tomorrow. she has inspired many people in her own right. so in conclusion to paraphrase that montana editor in 1941, now when courage, shear courage is celebrated in this country, the name of jeannette rankin is written in monumental bronze, not for what she did, but for the way she did it. no, rankin could not vote for war, but she could and she did stand up for the democratic process. so thank you and if you have any questions i'm happy to try to answer them.
