the shriver report was started to look at the status of the american woman. news organizations were not really reporting that. the news business has changed quite a bit since i for started. women are working, raising children and taking care of aging parents will stop the majority of people in minimum wage jobs, 70% are women. can kind of support business gives them? in this most recent report, we pulled and researched and reported that for the first time the face of poverty is the face of a working woman. of those women, 42 million, children who depend on them, i believe we can do better. andhave minimum wage jobs many of them have not even one sick day to take care of their child, so i believe the government can do better and i think women themselves can do better and focus on their education and think of themselves as writers, not someone who is provided for. when they go to school, to delay family planning. do isf what i tried to work in all of those fields because i think today, unlike when president johnson or my dad and working, civil rights social jus

call it social justice in the 21st century, it is a fascinating group of folks have you on, maria shriver, david robinson, former nba player. what do you want -- what do you hope people get out of your panel? >> well, we have stevenen stout and election freeding. we are really excited we have a cross section of people who are coming, each of whom in their own careers have made a choice to advocate for social justice. i want to be sure that we put those examples forward for the participants at the summit. hopefully to inspire each person who attends and views the summit that there is something that they can do and that there is an issue that will touch their hearts so that they will go back home or stay in texas and be inspired to do something. i think that's what president carter was saying yesterday. let's just not sit back and talk. let's do something about the problems. >> dr. bunch, i think you have a bit of a challenge here. it is supposed to be a panel discussion, but no offense, i just want to hear from all three of these people telling their stories and telling their history. of y

the shriver report of said that if women earn equal pay to men, the u.s.nomy would produce an additional $447.6 billion in income. sure sounds like a good thing to me. >> it is good for women, it is good for men, it is good for husbands, good for male children of those women. republican hypocrisy on this is really staggering. i respect ruth marcus. but againvy another liberal. kind of tone policing the democrats because maybe the rhetoric has gone a tiny bit too far on this. but the truth is republicans are against anything that could make this gap smaller. it seems to me one of the west best things you could do is raise the minimum wage. republicans say one reason there is a gap is because women are aggregated at the low end of the wage scale at low-wage jobs. that is truly true. seems to me both sides could agree. you are worried about that lower end, raise the minimum wage. two-thirds of minimum wage workers are women. they say this doesn't exist, then they give lip service to it, then say it is not as bad as we say it is and they have no answers. >> jo
