i am david shuster sitting in for keith olbermann. unemployment has fallen again presenting the g.o.p. with a dlema. g.o.p. thinks they can sweep with one theme: they are the only ones who can turn the economy around. unfortunately for them, the numbers indicate they are wrong. employers added 243,000 jobs last month, dropping the unemployment rate from 8.5% to 8.3. beyond that good news the overall trend seemed positive, too. january was 7th straight month of job growth. the unemployment rate has dropped bringing us to the lowest rate in nearly three years. good news for millions of americans and for president obama who used the news to pressure congress to pass extensions of the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance without delay. >> the economy is growing stronger. the recovery is speeding up. and we have got to do everything in our power to keep it going. so i want to send a clear message to congress: do not slow down the recovery that we are on. don't muck it up. >> mr. president, as you know milkinguck mucking things up is

shuster. mr. shuster: i thank the gentleman from allentown for yielding.t's a great privilege for me to be here on the house floor today, talking about someone who i have the highest regard for and over the years was able to watch just what a tremendous thing he did at the university, penn state university. it's not just about winning football games. of course he won 409 games in his 46 seasons, five undefeated teams and led penn state to two national championships. but he zpw more than that. did more for the university. i know my colleagues have already talked about the only division i school in the country that has a wing of the library named after the head football coach. that's because his and sue's dedication and contributions to building that, not only that library but that institution, and a lot of that building came through as he built those football teams and brought national attention to penn state. but for me on a personal level, probably one of the proudest moments i had was to stand on the house floor when he -- i believe he surpassed walter c

i am david shuster on behalf of everybody at "countdown". thank you for watching. have a great weekend, everybody! i am jennifer granholm. jobless numbers down, the markets surge and the republicans have plenty to worry about. united auto worker president job king is here to talk about the jobs and a famous sit-com star wants to be your commander in chief. you are in the war room. come on inside. >>> its way too soon for them to start singing "let the good times roll" but new economic numbers are boosting president obama's re-election bid. a drop in the unemployment rate. it's now at 8.3% which is the lowest it has been in nearly three years. the u.s. economy added more than 2240,000 new jobs in january. that's nearly 100,000 more than many economists predicted. returning veterans got some good economic news. unemployment among their ranks stands at 9.1% and last year it was at 15.2%. huge drop. now, investors took the jobs news and ran with it. the dow jones industrial average if you haven't heard closed up 156 points at 12,862, a post-recession high. speaking of
