it has been really dry in the sierra. good news we will get at least a foot of snow with the system coming in. and our bay area mountain tops could see snow. the storm we're watching is going to drop in towards tomorrow night and tuesday. and because it's originating out of alaska cold air coming our way. rain at times, breezy conditions. we're used to that. but we're not used to snow dipping down to 2,000 feet by tuesday. that tells you hope cold this air will be getting. especially over the coastal areas and around the ocean. may see some isolated thunder as well. monday still looks fine. we'll see increasing clouds during the day. plan on the rain. then as we head into the evening, this is the time after sunset. will probably see some snow accumulations mainly above 3500 feet. wednesday morning things start to dry out. the system on tuesday bring in about a quarter inch to maybe 3/4 inch of rain in the coastal hill tops. the good news for the sierra, we'll skiee a foot of snow. on into wednesday. 30s and 40s outside. t

here's the story for the sierra. now we're about 80 to 74% of average. still well ahead of last year. the skiing is still nice in the sierra about it would be nice to get more rain and snow. unfortunately the forecast doesn't have any of that coming our way. the satellite views, you noticed if you were outside, a few high clouds going by. the pattern that is setting up in the pacific is one that does not look like we'll see any chance for rain. as we look at two jet streams typically this time of year, the polar jet which dives to the south. that's the main transport for storms coming out of gulf of alaska. sometimes the sub tropical jet will come out of the south and steer storms into the central coast. right now this pattern is split around the west coast. and this system here, notice it is not going anywhere as long as the high is to the east. the blocking pattern will keep us dry and you'll notice wednesday, thursday, friday, the temperatures will climb as we head toward next weekend. into tomorrow morning you'll see some high clouds going by. notice

i'm not going to go into heavy detail, i want to take you down here into the sierra madre. i was following routes all over for the house of rain, trying to figure out where the anastazi went when they left house of rain. many of them made the modern pueblos but other groups continued south. i followed pottery trails down into the sierra madre where my wife and two others went out and we came to these cliff dwellings. it seemed like every single cave we looked into had cliff dwellings. and this wasn't a place with trails. this wasn't a known location. many of these sites were pristine. they were just -- it looked as if people had just left suddenly, just like all the stories in here. little cliff dwellings, little granaries, little sites falling apart. larger sites. this site went actually 5 layers deep into this cave. very particular to this region were these shaped storage rooms. this one is about 10 feet high. often they would have door stones sealing them on the top. and they were of all kinds of shapes and sizes, but they specific to that area. that's the smallest one w

the sierra club opposes the proposed condo ordinance and urgency rejection by the board of supervisors and this is for three main reasons. number one, just very practical, converting a t.i.c. to a condo doesn't create new housing. it just changes it from one type of ownership to another. the proposed fees that were discussedalty length earlier don't even come close to providing the needed funds to build replacement rental units. i understands the nexus study and did part of it but on a practical level it's odd to think that between 4,000 and 20,000 could build a replacement unit. number three, the proposed ordinance endangered san francisco's stock of controlled housing units. i know there are disagreements about what the lifetime can and can't do but that will ex-spire at some point and that unit will never be rent controlled again and it's lost forever. but we don't want to be all negative so we have other ideas. instead -- it seems to make more sense to protect rent control and the rent controlled units that we still have because you can't expand that type of housing by law as you a
