now we are starting sierra leone team.e have set up an organization or association which carries on the concern of the volunteers after they come back. that is what they have started for one month in tanzania or later on in sierra leone, who is going to take it over after us? who will pass on the information and contacts so it is an incremental process, not starting from zero every year? we have set up that organization. we have more and more people who contact us. when we do fund raising, we have to advertise. not only the business or people who can sponsor us here, but students who are curious and interested. last week i got an e-mail from a student from taiwan university who was asking, can i join your group? there are people who are interested, i feel, and that's what we want to promote. going abroad for volunteer service is something which should be part of a curriculum of a young taiwanese, if we want to get in a global village, global society. >> we have about a minute left in this part of the program. how has the t

thunderstorms over the northern sierra nevada right now.ere, more seasonal weather to make a return over the next few days. so with that in mind, far northern california still the possibility of some thunderstorms there. drying out in the sacramento valley. 98 hot in fresno. 68 monterey bay. around our bay mostly sunny skies this afternoon 70s and 80s in the south bay 60s at the coastline. east bay numbers running up in the 80s in many spots. and then inside the bay, those temperatures running in the 60s and 70s. so the next couple of days it looks like the temperatures going to start to heat up as our atmosphere begins to calm down somewhat. a few more clouds over the weekend but should stay dry and cooler weather to start out the next week with temperatures below average. but the thunderstorms are done here. still in northern california they are going to have to watch out for fires. >>> some students in vacaville are getting college credit even before they take the a.c.t. test. they are back in school and hitting the books now. students a

who is oppressing the sierra club?i think what organized labor is doing is very, very misguided. how and what they will get from partnering with the sierra club i don't know. melissa, if i can go back a bit so people understand. union density of the private sector from 35% in the 1950s to less than 7% today. it isn't because of organized labor. a variety of different causes. decline in manufacturing base. the widespread bankruptcies of some unionized concerns. but what organized labor did about 30 years ago, it decided to use the political process to stem its decline. it identified the democrat party as a vehicle of choice, and thii is where it has brought them, aad let me tell you why. first by doing that the republican party became the enemy. the labor, or the union cause became a partisan cause. organized labor began to blindly support democrat legislative proposals such as obamacare and now -- melissa: let me stop you. has that been a success or a failure? on one hand membership is way down as you said. on the othe

i'm the director of the san francisco bay chapter in the sierra club, we have 30 thousand members in alameda and san francisco county, we urge you to move forward. the contract that we are negotiating with shell, north america is for 100% california renewable standard energy as you know and it is i believe you'll see a letter in your packet that we're trying to put additional confines to encourage the use of union facilities energy production facilities. that is only a contract for 250 to 30 megawatts of energy, the initial vision of cleanpowersf is for almost 250 megawatts of energy, the entire load of the non-municipal build rinsing san francisco is over 500 megawatts of electricity consumption at its peak, there is a lot of room for this program to grow and where we want to take it is local renewable generation that creates good, green jobs, local green jobs. what we need to do is establish a rate base so that we have some leveraging ability to do that local build-out. your staff has done a good job of bringing the price down so people won't opt out of the program that people can

the american fire in the sierra is one of the biggest. it scorched 15,000 acres in steep terrain. 2,000 firefighters are on the front lines. it is 53% contained. there is a lot of fuel to burn. people are allowed to return to their homes that were threatened by the swedes fire. one home and several out buildings were burned. more than 300 buildings are threatened. people who were evacuated are worried what they will come home to. >> they are anxious. some of them didn't get their horses out in time. >> this morning the swedes fire is two thirds contained. firefighters expect to have a line around it by thursday. it has burned 2100 acres. >> one man died after a shooting at an east san jose restaurant. it happened about 10:00 last night at the wong han restaurant. three men were shot. two survived. police haven't said if the shooting happened inside or outside. there is no suspect information. >> developing news out of egypt where one leader is being set free and another is being put behind barrings. susan explains why they might not be ab
