the sierra is getting plenty and central california as well.s we get into the second part of the day. a few sprinkles may pop up. and as we get into the evening hours, it's out of here. tuesday is a dry day and wednesday is a dry day. late wednesday to early thursday morning, it will pull in and this one looks to be stronger. as far as the rainfall amounts, i showed you what we have received. it's not going to be much. but the next storm could bring us 1 to 2 inches of rain and maybe more in the hills. we're looking forward to that. here's a look at the temperatures. a cool day, 50 degrees in san francisco. and low 50s in oakland. and 55 in napa. and the second part of the day. not much better. mid- to upper 50s and a few 60s at best. 55 expected for san francisco. and into the south bay with 58 expected for san jose, 56 in los gatos. notice the temperatures won't be changing a lot as we get into the next several days. we'll be dry on tuesday. it could be cool and breezy. and then by wednesday increasing cloud cover by the second part of the da

in the sierra you can see the storm clouds in the sierra-at- tahoe camera and yes, visibility will beted this morning. that area under a winter weather advisory until 10:00 tonight for lake tahoe, but as low as 2,000 feet in elevation from the sierra foothills impacted by the storm coming through. a little action to the north of us to eureka. if your route takes you near 80, if you want to get some of the fresh powder, bring your chains. it's as low as baxter and blue canyon. that's 4,000 to 5,000 elevation. the mother lode placerville area, the foothills could see no from the system because it's cold enough as we were talking about. this is coming down about 4:30 with snow in the region and very light scattered showers. >> we have been tracking a head- on crash that has been causing delays for drivers through palo alto. this is just off 101. so you can see that traffic very slow one westbound lane closed both eastbound lanes of oregon expressway currently shut down. emergency crews are working their investigation on this crash. to get around it, use embarcadero as an alternate and cu

that's what we're seeing over the sierra. southern california may have the grapevine impacted tonight. here is a look at what's going on across the bay. we started out with widespread rain coming down right during the morning drive and then into the afternoon partly cloudy, blue skies, sunshine, and we still continue to see scattered showers. take a look at stormtracker 2. i do want to push you back all the way to 8, 9:00 this morning when the snow fell over mount hamilton. take a look right in there. that's when we saw, again, the snow moves through the bay area. lake county also picking up a little bit. this is where we stand at the moment. scattered showers continuing to fall over portions of the north bay, healdsburg. it looks like south of santa rosa between santa rosa and petaluma and highway 101. sebastopol, guerneville. it's heavy closer to american canyon, vallejo, napa. and through the carquinez straits, perhaps a through thunderstorms wrapped in there. it stretches to anitoch and oakland. it looks to be on the nort

look at the sierra. we have snow falling in the sierra and over the pacific there are some blue skies. definitely a pattern change and over the weekend we began the transition. monday afternoon we are partly cloudy and you can see we are not getting any rain. lake tahoe is winding down as well as in the sierra but a little bit of snow this morning. this is a look at the temperatures. 37 in santa rosa, just above freezing in napa, upper 30s in livermore, 42 oakland, 49 san francisco and 50 in san jose. along the peninsula, 47 foster city with 45 in san mateo. upper 50s with lower 60s and the forecast for today. not much change coming in the days ahead. i will detail what we are expecting coming up but first let's get to the highways.>>> right now traffic is moving along pretty well if you are driving approaching the bay bridge from the east shore freeway, 31 minutes continuing from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze and that is not too bad for right now. that is about what we expect. also looking

look at all of the snow piling up in the sierra. they are reporting 7 inches across portions of the sierra. there is not a lot of shower activity to show you on the radar but we could have some more development late tonight or by midnight. especially near the coastlines. it is cold enough that we could have a rain-snow mix closer to the surface. current numbers right now, it is chilly in napa. san francisco, 44. here is our live camera looking out at the bay bridge lights. this will be interesting with the chance of some snow overnight. the best chance will be in the santa cruz mountains. that is why we have this, a winter weather advisory that begins midnight at 10 am on monday. over the summit, there could be amounts approaching 4 inches of snowfall in the santa cruz mountains. i will have your full forecast coming up.>>> police say two men robbed a driver, stole his van and set the vehicle on fire in santa rosa. the victim was not injured but as you can see, the van was badly damaged. the victim told officers he was stopped near

we are going to talk about how much snow they are going to see in the sierra, but of course sierra snowg to get quite a bit, too. we're starting out this morning with some wet roads in parts of the bay area. hasn't yet made it to the south bay, but it's very close. we've seen the rain in the north bay for quite a while now, where you see the greens, light rain, yellows and reds show heavier rain and it's now moving across parts of the richmond-san rafael bridge and the golden gate bridge, too. so if you are driving out of the north bay into parts of the east bay or the south bay, it is going to be very sloppy out there. so allow extra time to get to work now. heavy rain in richmond and we are also seeing a steady rain right now in san francisco. a little bit lighter there, but getting heavier for berkeley and also for oakland. seeing some pockets of some heavier rain moving through orinda and also in parts of the delta. we are still going to see the light rain making its way farther to the south, but really starting to po you are in san mateo and it's all clear right now in san jose. th

i'd like to talk quickly about the sierra snow pack.are doing so bad there, we are only at about 25% around lake tahoe of normal and the southern sierra as well as the northern sierra only at about 18% of normal. so it would take a lot of snow to catch up to normal and at this point that really doesn't happen. so we are looking at only a slight chance of seeing some more snow moving in as we go into early next week and for us that means a few spotty showers and much cooler temperatures on the way. i will talk more about that coming up. mike, you have an update on the crashes in the east bay. >>> i'm chuckling because i was not expecting you to say that sierra snow pack is bad. the bay bridge crash cleared from lanes, no problem there. over here west cutting that crash cleared from the roadway as well, it may still have activity at the off ramp at cutting boulevard, no slowing shows up on our sensors anymore. west 580 coming off of that split with warren freeway, highway 13 that is over off to the shoulder if it's there at all. no slowin

there are numerous lightning strike, still are in the sierra foothills. hailstones. a lot of it has moved from napa county to sonoma county. we have pockets of downpours and heavy rain, gusty wind and possibly isolated hailstones down into american canyon, over to the sears point area. this is moving in a line southward and southeastward. you can expect the stormy weather in concord to swing down into berkley by 4:20 or so. by 4:30, it should be moving into oakland, then down into livermore. by 5:00 or so to union city. so this stormy weather is going to swing down through the east bay and likely compliate the late afternoon and early evening commute just a bit. this ranks one on the storm impact scale. we can expect scattered showers, once again chance of small hail and lightning strikes and a wintry mix of freezing rain and maybe even snow above 4,000 feet. it will be swinging down, the stormiest areas, down into the messen town -- and around mst. hamilton we wil see a wintry mix. >>> from hail to snow, this is not the sierra, but the foothills near the reservoir.

southern portions of the sierra could see some precipitation.here could be snowfall in the higher elevations. not low snow. but it's going to be a few flurries. that's something to talk about because at least it's a little change. high temperatures for today in the 50s and low 60s. we are where we should be today, around 60 for san francisco. we'll be a couple of degrees cooler. 62 san jose. spot on for oakland and concord. looking ahead, we are going to get a blast of cold air. but first, this high pressure ridge is going to make a comeback. when it does, through thursday, friday, saturday our temperatures will be on the rise. you will notice by saturday we are going to be in the low 70s. and then sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, look how cold it's going to get. we are going to get a lot of cold canadian air. so we could wake up to temperatures in the 30s and 20s monday through wednesday morning. it will be chilly starting next week. so enjoy this warmer weather. temperatures in the 70s through saturday. president's day it's going to be cool

the incoming storm could bring nor than a foot to the sierra. that's great news there.st time of the day. 57 degrees. the breeze outside probably not making it feel like 57 degrees right now in san jose. there you see the temperature. really across the board, we're in the mid-50s right now. notice increasing clouds. chance of slate showers tonight. 21-mile-per-hour winds around liver more. emeryville, 55 degrees, seeing winds close to 20. in san francisco, things will be dry for chinese parade time. cool, though. temperatures dropping into the 40s as we head to tomorrow morning. the numbers getting tough to look at is the rain deficit we've seen for a mostly dry february. santa rosa now missing more than a foot of rainfall. that's one of the wetter locations around the bay area, at about 12 inches of rain, missing 13, though. san jose just 45% of average. we'll have a slight chance of a few showers tonight, but the seven-day forecast will bring a much better chance, of more significant rain as we head into the middle of next week. there is your rain outlook for tomorrow

we had a little sierra snow, not a lot, but a little bit. there is more on the way sunday night into monday. if you are heading to southern california, things have changed down there as well. teens and 20s around lake tahoe. in the higher elevation, a blustery day but it will be sunny and nice. if you are heading to southern california, there will be a little bit of rain. moisture is being pumped into arizona as well. it looks like more rain for them starting tomorrow and thursday as well. 40s on the thames. scotts valley, 28. look around watsonville, some upper 30s to low 40s. high pressure to the north and low to the south. temperatures will be in the 60s from north to south. i know you have some busy traffic. >>> east on 580 heading toward berkeley on 580 away from the richmond bridge a car flipped over into the march. it is an injury crash. eastbound 580 is just getting worse. driving away from the richmond bridge and coming on down, a flipped over car. it is not in the lanes, but it is causing slow traffic because people are looking at
