the snow in the sierra is the headline. if we look at the accumulations tomorrow, we have a little bit of snow accumulated but watch what happens from then on. bottom line, tomorrow afternoon, from 5:00 on, is when the majority of the snow falls on the passes. if you have somebody traveling back home. give them the heads up. they are likely not watching the local news and may not know and people are going to get caught in this tomorrow. if you know somebody you can help, give them a call and make sure you are prepared for snow. possibly chains. snow tires, four wheel drives. let's talk about our chance for rain. this is a large storm. this thing will drop five feet of snow in the rockies tomorrow in montana. we are down here on the southern branch of it. as far as the bay area is concerned, watch the futurecast as we get into if afternoon in the north bay. that gets us into the late afternoon. maybe a few isolated showers. potentially in the form of an isolated thunderstorm. nothing like what happened. in the central valley

. >> now to a live look at the sierra where you can see it does look cold out there.w is expected to start falling in the next few hours and yeah, it is only september. let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda. we were hot and now we're cold and there issomew you can see s and near high camp and squaw valley. the snow is flying there around the bay area at least right now we are seeing less moisture, but a lot of wind and look at those gusts out of sfo and 47 miles per hour and it's a blustery evening around the bay area and for today the sierra snow and eventually as we finish out the weekend, shower chances are increasing closer to home and you won't have to go too far away to find active weather and in fact some thunderstorms here starting to fire up to the north of solano county, moving generally away from the bay area headed toward sacramento and you can see up to the north that will bring a chance of showers even here as we wrap up the weekend. i'll have a closer look at that and who might see 30-degree temperatures tonight in our forecast coming up in about ten

look at the update to the sierra. we're going to see another wave of moisture come through.it possible we see more than a foot of snow at king dale and donner summit by tomorrow night into monday? we'll be watching that closely. winter weather advisory will continue at least till about 5:00 on monday. now, as impressive as that is, the bay area rain chances not as much. you can see here it's in the north bay. we'll probably see our best chance, the morning right now doesn't look like much. it will be chilly and breezy again. as we head towards mid afternoon and probably about 5:00 to chance of finding some showers. mostly we think in the north bay, but we just can't rule out a few more stray showers into monday as well with thoff to th. monday morning still a chance of scattered showers as the up earn level system starts to move out. and that is the second part of the forecast. as that moves out by monday and tuesday, high pressure starts to build back in and perhaps more strongly so by the time we head towards next weekend. so the seven-day forecast will start to rebound. b

they might get another 6-8 inches of snow not only in the sierra, but also in shasta.ys ago we had record high temperatures, and that we are back into very cool conditions. the forecasted high temperatures are below average. san francisco actually dropped to 53 degrees. one of the few times both the low temperature and the high temperature will be normal for this time of year. the record was way back in 1900. we are still slow to warm up and there is a couple of low 60s in there, but a lot of 50s. areas that was pretty hot just a week ago are in the 50s right now. that tells you how cool and dynamic this system was. it did have a lot of moisture with it and we got a little rain out of it. there could still be a few more rotating around on the backside and clipping maybe sonoma county and we are not officially done yet. there was a couple of showers overnight and there is still some more of north in the sierra, but the main impact from this system is how cool we are compared to the southeast where that ridge of high pressure is located. the showers to date will be more

there is the red-flag warning for sierra. sunday through midday monday. gusty winds ahead of an early fall-like storm. storm ranger not seeing anything right now. the storm we're watching is up here in the gulf of alaska. it will drop to the south as we head through the day tomorrow night into monday. notice the rain totals not moving much until you get into the mid part of the monday morning commute. and by the afternoon, could be respectable weather system if it verifies. could see a 5th of an inch of rain in some spots and maybe just enough to wet the ground. the timing on it doesn't look like a big impact till the end of the weekend. mid-morning to early afternoon as things look right now, we could see a chance of rain making a comeback for monday. really a one-day chance as you are see showing up in the seven-day forecast. once the system moves out for monday, we begin to see clearing skies, little breezy through mid week. then temperatures start to climb up and warm up as we change fro 100-degree temperatures, 70s and a chance of showers fort the wi

quite the site there around the sierra.place, you know our morning will start off in the 40s and 50s. might see a few upper 30s around the wind-sheltered valleys of the north bay. highs tomorrow similar to today, 60s to low 70s up and down the santa clara valley. upper 60s from oakland into fremont. peninsula temperatures mostly in the 60s for your afternoon. and for san francisco, highs in the low 60s for another day. and north bay temperatures in the 60s to low 70s. storm ranger has been picking up a few scattered showers in the north bay but most of the moisture, as with the case yesterday, moving east to sacramento towards the sierra where they're seeing more snow. there's a slight chance. you see 3:00 a.m. around diablo and san jose. around the hill tops a slight chance of showers tomorrow as that system slowly starts to move away from the bay area. you can see once that gets out of here, temperatures will start to rebound. back into the 70s to low 80s by midweek. one item to watch aas stronger high pressure tries to b
