so far this morning on into the central valley and eventually up into the sierra in the bay area what we're leslie looking at is some light to moderate showers although we have had a couple of problem spots as far as rain goes that includes if you're heading south of san jose on up into the santa cruz mountains or down into morgan hill where some of our heaviest of rainfall is being seen once you head north of san jose air really tapers off and tapers off fast. mountain view fremont san mateo pretty dry overall right now and then this line of heavier showers stretching right across one o one between petaluma in novato it's going to trudge further and further northeastward eventually resulting in an impact in areas of sonoma and napa county that have seen light rainfall up to this point if you are traveling one o one south down to the golden gate bridge has been consistently rainy through the morning. so this road is very wet and watch out for some standing water on the roadway. even along the route such as the richmond center fell bridge now as you can see here the heaviest of rainfal

the mid-levels the sierra did lose a lot. especially when you get an atmospheric river event like we do have these come in a little bit warmer then those systems that move their way in from the northwest such as we saw last week right before thanksgiving that was a cold system this one definitely on the warmer side. so it's all about the rain for the bay area and then that's know what your head up well into the sierra nevada. not so much in the mid-levels like we saw last week now the heaviest of rainfall is passing just south of the bay, the central coast has been seeing some very heavy rainfall over the course of the past day or so while the bay area right on the northern tier of some of this heavier shower activity that means for you in san jose right now you are looking at some moderate rainfall a pretty widespread at this point you don't have to have very far north before it tapers off sunnyvale in milpitas kind of the northern terminus of the heavier rainfall that is stocked up further south. so campbell 7 trees, san jo

and speaking of getting into the sierra, sunday is the day to avoid if you can. it's not going to be a massive winter storm up there, but it's going to be enough that you'll need the 4 wheel drive and want to be good with chains. look at the winter weather advisory. it goes into effect in the sierra sunday morning from 7:00 a.m. until sunday night at 10:00. and if we look at the totals there, we'll pick up 4 to 7 inches up on the passes where you have to drive which means you'll have to deal with it. and just to show you what the accumulations are going to look like here, doesn't really start until late morning in the sierra and then it just snows through the remainder of sunday. if you can go monday, that would be better. if you could go tomorrow, on saturday, that would be better too. if you have to go sunday, just know what you're getting into. and the timing for the snow in the sierra is different than the timing for the rain here at home. the rain will come through overnight saturday night into very early sunday. the snow is going to fall in the sierra after

we go up into the sierra and a popular destination for people to get up to this time of year, and look what's happening in lake tahoe right now. the high def doppler is reading the showers over south lake tahoe. the green shows it raining at lake level, which is right about 6200 feet. and as soon as you get up a little above that, it turns to snow. it's kind of an ideal situation up there. you don't have to deal with a lot of snow perhaps on the roadway, but you get snow on the slopes. and looking at what happens over the rest of tonight, if you're going to be driving up there, there's enough snow the remainder of this evening that there's a winter weather advisory in the sierra until 10:00 tonight. 1 to 3 inches falling on the passes. let's come back home and talk about the chance of rain here at home for christmas. i'll time it out and stop it here tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 and that's when we see a few isolated showers in the south bay. this is not going to be a major rain event for the bay area on christmas eve or christmas day for that matter. it just looks a lot better on christm

what we're seeing tomorrow until 10:00am today, we're still under winter storm warnings up in the sierra nevada we saw multiple additional feet of snowfall up in the sierra the mid levels of the sear actually did lose some of the snow accumulation because this storm system is a little bit warmer. a lot of that snow melted off at lower elevations and that means a lot of rushing water into streams. there is a flood advisory just west of yosemite in the foot hills currently temperatures in the 50's right now across the bay, it is a comfortable morning, not really all that cool. this afternoon is going bring pretty similar temperatures low 60's for highs, the heaviest of rainfall for the rest of the day really expected south of san jose while isolated showers for the rest of us. rebecca. >>all right john yeah you definitely call that we're really seeing the heaviest of that rainfall in the south bay like a john was mentioning and it's affecting traffic of course now we're starting to see more issues pop up right. so an earlier crash north bound to be right rea street is being cleared. the ba
