looks like it will give us a nice amount of rainfall and some sierra snow.e'll take another break for a couple of days and then see a new round of rain moving in. let' focus on the first one because it brings in more sierra snow as the bay area gets a quarter to half an inch of rain up to 19 inches of snow in kingvale. but let's take a look at we know it's been dry, how much rain we've measured, how much snow in the sierra and how that compares to normal. we've only gotten about 16% of the normal amount of snow. for the central sierra around lake tahoe and that area up to 40% of the normal amount of snow. and so we're going to see once again more snow coming in in the forecast as the bay area gets some rain. temperature wise seasonable with upper 50s and low 60s extending into the weekend. right now the weekend looks dry but we can possibly start to see that rain moving in as early as sunday and, of course we'll be getting the time lines and the details down as we get closer. i'll be watching not one but two storms, mike. it's all dry for the morning commute

the snow for the high sierra. winter storm warnings in effect for the red shaded counties. they'll pick up up to 16 inches of snow with round one into tomorrow. a winter weather advisory in the light blue shaded counties where they pick up 3 to 8 inches of snow, generally on the lower end of that around south lake tahoe, but some welcome news for the ski resorts up there even as they operate at reduced capacities or within the travel restrictions. the snow continues to fly in the high sierra while it's raining about the bay area, so let's return home. we still have scattered showers. this last wave of more widespread rain is going to push to the east. it's going to be more of an off and on pattern through the rest of tonight. we'll zoom in to the central bay. steady rain in san francisco. this is what's going to push across the bay towards the tri-valley into the delta. things beginning to taper off in the north bay already. farther to the east into napa county and solano county. san jose, you've been in the rain shadow of the santa cruz mountains all day. i don't think tha

it will snow more in the sierra. it was kind of odd how that worked. the snow started in the southern sierra and worked its way northward. part of that interesting path, that we are trajectory the storm has taken. so there are the totals on the big picture tomorrow night into monday. how about a closer look up at tahoe. we will get snow down at lake level, about half an inch, and then donner pass, some of the higher elevations, we will get closer to nine or 10 inches. so this is not a heavy winter storm, but it's enough to mess with the drive. the national weather service has not issued any warnings just yet but it's likely they will issue something because that is enough for change to be required for anyone traveling sunday night into monday. if you look at the 7 day forecast, take a look ahead to thursday. not the most impressive storm, but there is another chance for rain coming our way on thursday. it doesn't look like anything too significant, but rain nonetheless. and that is part of an interesting story for about the next week and a half. we wil
