lightning storms in the sierra happen. this is not like that freak lightning storm that came across the bay area last august but still lightning? this fire season? anytime? anywhere is going to be a concern. and if we come in for a closeup look, look at this stray strikes that have shown up here in the northern sierra up in the plumas drainage heading down to places like chico. as you look at the rest of is sierra there's a lot but there's also plenty of rain. so it's -- there's a wedding rain that's going along with the lightning strikes as they come. and you can see plenty of green on here. so it's a good balance. we're getting enough rain that it will help to dampen down any lightning strikes that happen to spark anything and if we watch this on the futurecast, that all turns off once we get into tomorrow. that's an inch. so if there's an inch in the bullseye, there's still enough rain scattered throughout the sierra that it's decent news. what's the impact here at home? nothing. if anything, it's just you know, the i b

another day of it up toward the sierra. right now, san francisco is actually breezy, and cool. 51 degrees looking at some misty skies heading towards the morning. 52 currently in livermore. west and northwest wind at 10 miles an hour. and also in the 50s right now, san jose, with southeast wind at 11. but the attention tonight will be on the radar as we continue to watch what is left of weakening showers moving from the northeast, back toward the bay area. some of these showers through the day have produced some thunderstorms up around lakeport. you can see, this did give a little bit of lightning. now, weakening as it moves to the south and west. but it's from about midnight to 4:00 a.m., it will be the area right around sacramento. yolo county. solano county. where we might see one more batch of showers come through. that's going to be before sunrise tomorrow. once that band moves out, we're back to the fog and the drizzle storm kind of like we woke up to this morning. so morning temperatures will be in the 50s. some driz

there will be more thunderstorms in the sierra.f an interesting weather weak in that regard. and i haven't even gotten to the fact that there are raindrops on the lens of the camera on mark hopkins hotel. this is a fairly isolated situation. you pretty much have to be near the coast or in the city. then you can get the influence of this deep marine layer. i looked at the rain gauges, nothing. but high enough there has been this persistent misting on the lens. the hi-def doppler shows it. the thunder and lightning quieted down, you're looking at the last three hours. and those storms are all confined to the sierra. that's the closest they will get to us. they will pretty much come to an end overnight. the only thing we have at home is this marine layer. which got an added boost from the storm driving those thunderstorms in the sierras. that gave some added lift. in the marine layer will build back in overnight. so everyone wakes up to the wet gray blanket tomorrow. but it burns back faster tomorrow than it has over the past couple o

the sierra snowpack is vanishing quickly.al 2 to 5% of normal for may, the melting snows a crucial resource that bolsters water supply. one reservoir that has watched closely is in yosemite national park. 85% of the water supply for parts of the bay area is linked to hedge hetchy. we serve 2.8 million customers throughout the bay area. it's kind of service areas kind of a big fish hook running around from san francisco down the peninsula around the south end of the bay and up to hayward. to the east bay. steve ritchie is the assistant general manager for water at the san francisco public utilities commission. we explore the reservoir six years ago during our last round at first glance, the water reserves seemed to be healthy, but far from normal, fast forward to may 2021, you may expect extremely low levels. that is not the case. current water supply is 93 billion gallons and continues to rise. the outlook calls for water stores that will approach 117 billion gallons, which is full capacity. when i read the headlines of the s

that is that batch of thunderstorms from the sierra that the system is trying to throw our way.not likely we will get it in the bay area. maybe along the sonoma county line tomorrow. here is the much more likely scenario. a couple of hundredths of an inch of rain. it hasn't rained here in a while. we are so busy talk about fire weather last week it is nice to talk about a misting marine layer. morning low temp does come back down into the low 50s. you have noticed a dramatic cool down if you are inland. today's numbers are about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. each day it drops about 10 degrees. now that we have done that we pretty much stay right here. here are the daytime high temptress for tomorrow. we will go 71 degrees in cabell and union city hit 68 degrees. we should all mostly get more sun than not by the time we get to around noon. here is your inland numbers. a lot of low to mid 70s and numbers in the bay are not getting out of the 50s. we will be in the mid to upper 60s along the east bay. the warmest numbers are showing up there through wednesday. you might get an

all the action continues to be right over the the sierra. it will continue to do that as we head toward tomorrow. look at the sea breeze bringing in the fog and low clouds. look how the fog is all the way into stockton and sacramento. it's a good sign of rain pressure cooler air. by mid-morning we see the clouds break up. stay on the coast, we'll still see the misty skies and tuesday looks like a brief warm up in term of temperature. tomorrow morning, starting the day near 50 degrees for most places with briz l for your morning commute and breezy and cool like we had today. near 70 in san jose. 60 for san francisco and low 60s for oakland and tri-valley temperatures in the low 70s. similar up towards the north bay. as it move forward we'll see a bit of a resurgence. look what happens here. thursday into friday another cold system here that could bring snow the the sierra. by thursday and friday the set up looks very similar to what we had yesterday. could see some thunderstorms up on the coastal range. probably a little farther to the north.

we will see more showers develop over the northern sierra once we get past sunset tonight. from beyond the oregon line, towards tahoe. now look at what happens next. from saturday night i will play it forward into sunday and watch everything it pulled away fast on sunday. we can say goodbye to that. now that has had a couple of impacts on the weather at home. oddly enough it has kept the marine layer away. as a system leaves we see the marine layer bill back and we see a little more the low-grade clouds fill in much of the bay sunday morning. the other aspect of that is we will keep the onshore wind going and that also took a bit of a break. but into this evening, certainly tomorrow evening, it gets stronger. tomorrow night when the marine layer builds back in will notice stronger wind coming back to the coast. daytime highs were today will pretty much be sunshine today, calm conditions and temperatures right weather should be low to mid 70s for much of the south bay, campbell 74 in mountain view 69, 71 redwood city and mid to upper 70s for much of the east bay. livermore g
