all eyes are up in the sierra nevada.ght here, a view of what we have going on on the northern edge of lake tahoe, which is the clearing of that smoke because winds are pushing all that smoke away from the north side of the lake. and now to the east, the same winds have resulted in the rapid spread of the caldor fire during overnight hours. zooming in on lake tahoe. we will see some of our windy conditions popping up here in a second. now, one of the reasons we do have such rapid growth ride over the crest of the sierra the caldor fire is a significant really steady southwesterly wind that is pushed the fire into more heavily populated areas like myers in south lake tahoe myers really just seeing those pop so far crews of really tried to get in there, make sure to suppress those little pop-up blazes as they do reach down into those lower elevations. belmont's while valley looking at winds consistently all day long today, around 20 miles per hour. here's some visible satellite imagery showing you how those smoke plumes are

now take a look at this pictures from caltrans cameras in the sierra. this is a live look highway 50 at ski run in south lake tahoe. you can see a long line of cars heading east on the highway. they are trying to get out of the area. as i just mentioned, much of the area is is going to be under evacuation. so residents there if you haven't evacuated or haven't started to evacuate. it's probably a good idea to start getting your things together and head on out. and just a little while ago, state emergency management officials gave an update on the state and federal response to wildfires burning statewide. our capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala joins us live with what's next in the fire fight. ashley. >> yes, in a state leaders made it clear this afternoon that the cal their fire is a top priority as they not only worked to evacuate but also protect a congested and threaten south lake tahoe now, cal fire, chief director tom porter says that fire is really tough for firefighters as they have gained more control on the west side of the fire. but the east

golden glow over the sierra in the distance.ot flaring earlier this morning are right there in the southern corner of the screen. you can actually see distance. it's hard to see images like this, especially if you are someone who spent a lot of time or has family up in we are looking at our improved air quality continuing today getting better and better as smoke just continues to be sent to the east we will continue to see air quality impacts on the northern end of the central valley as well as across this year, especially the tahoe basin as far as winds go right around lake tahoe this morning. there are some calm pockets. but there's also some breezy areas just like belmont, right above the western side of the lake common south lake tahoe right now. little breezy further to the south as you traverse into those upper elevations along highway 50 where you are seeing the caldor fire burning. this was your visible satellite imagery of where those smoke plumes were heading yesterday. you can see it's a direct path to the east bay ar

this is a live camera at the sierra at tahoe resort. you see just how close the flames are to that tahoe resort there. so this is something we are watching closely. we have a red flag warning that will be in effect today into tomorrow. so this is a big concern for us as the wildfires moving even closer to the tahoe area. now lets show you that red flag warning. you see the caldor fire, that red flag warning in effect for that region up many tahoe and the sierra today through tomorrow due to gusty winds and looking at low relative humidity values. so a very high fire danger in that area. now lets talk about our weather here at home. we do -- we are looking at unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups for santa rosa, napa, livermore, moderate. that is yellow and green. that is good air quality over san francisco right now. some of the worst air quality right now inland east bay. looking at walnut creek, san ramon, brentwood, danville, clayton and pleasanton with those smokey skies. we do have an air quality advisory in effect for today.

contains most of the high sierra. let's zoom in for a closer look specifically at the vicinity of the cal donk fire. this red outline is where the fire was located and the perimeter of the fire for the weekend. let's switch to the satellite indicated hot spots and you can see how the wind is driving those over the ridge and in to the tahoe basin. reports of spot fires going in the meijer area and christmas valley and getting close to south lake tahoe and the more densely populated parts in the basin. the same conditions tomorrow. strong southwest winds 15 to 25 miles an hour and relative humidity levels low. 10 to 20% and the wind is pushing all of that smoke just dreadful air quality levels around the south end of lake tahoe. everybody out should be wearing a mask to protect themselves from this hazardous air levels. as long as it blows the fire will grow and the smoke will be a major issue. the southwest wind is actually good news for the bay. we will track our air in a few minutes. >>> paul, thank you. cargo ship m
