r s k sierras. mike to celie is standing by. he went up to the series this morning and shows us how we're looking up there in the mountains. it is april 21st . and this is your picture when snow freezing temperatures up here in this year. picture pretty much speaks for itself. we are getting hit with snow and one of the big stories this morning is the winter driving conditions. let me go this way we're above interstate 80. it's soda springs, the 6700 ft elevation elevation level. that is looking up towards donner summit you can see as the wind is pushing that snow across the freeway at times. visibility being impacted. you can see how slow it is getting up over donner summit right now. that traffic stopped just talked with the highway patrol officer. he was saying. it's a big rigs just struggling to get up over the summit. we saw a big rig toe also heading up that way. i saw report earlier today of a truck just not having the traction. it had to be pushed it a little bit of nudge to get some traction going up. the incline here.

nice and clear in this picture, the rain has passed but there's a lot of snow in the sierra. i know much-needed snow. we got up to 2 and a half feet of snow. >> for parts of the sierra, but we are tracking their receive driving conditions now that that winter storm has exited this year this morning. so if you are heading out to this year this weekend to take advantage of that fresh powder you're in life are tracking safe driving conditions all weekend long. sierra snow lab palisades and kirkwood all reported about 2 and a half feet of fresh powder within the last 48 hours. and that helped boost the sierra snowpack up to 35% of normal. so we still have a long ways to go. but hey, we did get a nice boost. thanks to those april showers making its way, not just in the bay area, but the sierra as well. and we're still noticing some lingering snow showers for those of you in truckee, a little bit of light rain and snow mixture there, but drying out for south lake tahoe. and we're going to continue with that drying trend and a lot of sunshine for the 1st half of the weekend. tempera
