the northeastern part of this state where there is a red flag warning for eastern side of the sierra nevada mountains because they do have strong winds and the dry fuels and the temperatures and the increased danger comes at times when there's few federal firefighters and 70% of the hot shot cruise are expected to be fully staffed and they are having trouble finding the jobs and the pay isn't good and you've got dangerous work conditions and the firefighter shortage could be worse in coming years. you're looking at the california inmates who fight the fires and we rely on them heavily to work hand in hand with the civilian firefighters. in june of next year california is set to shut down one of its main training facilities at the california collectional center and governor newsom is closing that entire facility to end the mass incarceration in the state. that will reduce the number of inmate firefighters on the front line. one farmer firefighter told nbc news that they are in need of inmitt firefighters because the civilian firefighters are short staffed. bob redell, nobodies bay area news.
