but overall, a much calmer forecast for us that out to the sierra nevada at southern california and then arizona and nevada. look at that. there's a lot of remnant moisture from post tropical cyclone k which is still sitting right off the coast just right there along the mexico southern california border. we've had lightning strikes up into areas like ventura and santa barbara counties just northwest of los angeles, as well as some heavy rainfall pushing through the eastern deserts on up into portions of the sierra nevada and then arizona in the state of nevada itself really seeing that heavy, hnavy rainfall from this system. great to be seeing the moisture there. not so much tapping into the lightning that does upper fire risk, especially in southern california because of this continued heavy rainfall, some parts of los angeles county and that out to arizona and nevada under continued flash flood advisories. we should be dodging any sort of that moisture, though, here in the bay area tapping into it as much. we do have the humidity, but becoming less and less humid as the week goes by.

it's going to be up in the sierra nevada, unfortunately up in the tahoe area. but moving maybe a little bit further to the north. but we do show some improvement here and the next 24 hours or so, it looks like we'll see a strong westerly wind kicking up outside this. what we're looking at right now in the tahoe area. look at about as bad as you can be on the scale here as we're in the worst category across parts of tall, they are seeing a little bit of rain right now. just checked on the observation. that is to help the mix out to some of that smoke as well will start to precipitate some of that out of the atmosphere. but back in the bay area, you can see a little haze outside across our skies, but we should begin to see some improvement. we're getting along the coastline right now. you start to see some green showing up here. and i think tomorrow she markedly better around the bay area that stronger on shore breeze not only help to cool down the temperatures but helps to clear out the atmosphere to. so that's some good news for us as well. but to hold boy, all

let's take it over towards the sierra nevada, though, and what we've got over there. e mosquito fire that continues to burn over there. exactly what we needed

but look at we still got some activity in the sierra nevada. this has been excellent news right around the mosquito fire burning right around here that had been putting up a lot of smoke into the lake tahoe basin little bit less of that now and fire activity has slowed as we have seen rain and even snow in the vicinity of the fire. we're calm here in the bay area for the time being. but this low-pressure area still spinning off to our west and still resulting in some unsettled weather across the region. a chance of thunderstorms making its return for inland areas closer to the central valley. a lot like yesterday, eastern alameda contra costa and solano counties will again see that chance of afternoon thunderstorms building not quite as high as yesterday, though, but you see those green pockets popping up towards the afternoon yesterday. a lot of us away from the water saw some rainfall during the afternoon. today's chances diminished. but for areas like concord and further inland, you could see a few isolated and brief showers. today's daytime

it's just rolling right over the sierra nevada. so if you're headed to tahoe this weekend, be prepared like to see plenty of smoke up their convention. we're talking about hazy conditions around the bay area. see a lot of yellow showing up and then and get a little bad county in those areas right now. well, we've just seen them high pressure overhead, not much mix in the atmosphere. that's going to begin to change a little bit good air quality along the coastlines to publish in poor quality in the east bay in the south of the big changes after this. we will see these numbers still. it's going to be hot inland. no getting around. may be as hot as 104 degrees. i think in the warmer spots inland tomorrow, a lot of 70's 80's around the bay 90's in the santa clara valley. so cooling down 60's coast side next couple days. these numbers all drop. and how about that by saturday and sunday, temperatures really come down across the board. some clouds come our way. still a slight chance of some thunderstorms, especially in the south bay. all

you've got all that smoke that is surging over the sierra nevada. you opcan see into the tahoe area. so from time to time, it is just very, very poor air quality in across much of tahoe. but now that starting to spend a little further north with a southerly component, the winds, how might that affect the bay area here? we're going to talk about more of that about that coming up in just minute, guys. all right, lawrence, thank you. in the south bay water officials in santa clara county say that residents have met their water saving goals. >> the downside is they may have to do more back in june. the water district declared a water shortage. emergency and as all customers to reduce water use by 15%. customers were asked to only water outdoors twice a week and also to prevent waterways from things like sprinklers sprayed onto sidewalks. well, now the district says in july customers exceeded the 15% goal and actually reached a 16% reduction. we don't know when this drought is going to and we don't you know how long we're going to have to continue. and a

take a look at the sierra nevada. it's rainfall in the sierra foothills.tinuing to see snowfall and this very highest of elevations. great news concerning the mosquito fire. a calm morning so far for the bay area. but as we move into the afternoon, we're still in the midst of the system and some instability out there will likely result in more thunderstorms rolling across the central valley later today. this is likely to have an impact again on the interior of the bay towards in when contra costa and alameda counties and up into solano county. watch out for a roll of thunder or 2 later today and some pop-up brief rain showers along with it. kind of like we saw yesterday. rainfall amounts should stay below a 10th of an inch for most areas for inland areas. bayside and coastal spots don't even worry about it because we're going to stay dry and clear closer to the bay and the co. so most of us in the bay are in for quite the sunny day. you get away from the water. tha 's where you've got to be looking at the skies. temperatures in the 70's for most of the reg

actually it some rain and thunderstorms up in the sierra nevada. be seeing that early season snowfall. we've seen a piling up an inch is now at the very crest of the sierra with temperatures warming in the days to come. a lot of that is going to melt off. but it is very helpful, especially around the mosquito fire. futurecast shows drying conditions later in the day today, unlike yesterday and monday as well. when we have the thunderstorms for inland areas will see less of that development today. so more consistently dry day. once we get through this morning rainfall that we have low pressure area gradually making its way out behind me. you see the high pressure ridge. that's what's going to be replacing it. allowing temperatures to skyrocket. well, back into the 90's by the latter part of the weekend, 60's and 70's for san francisco 60's at the coast in pretty consistent 70's elsewhere. millbrae at 74 saying carlos redwood city at 77, you notice woodside sitting at 80. you're not the only spot doing that. joined by walnut creek as well as center fe

the worst of air quality is definitely up in the sierra nevada as well as up towards lake county.really just looking at moderate conditions today, winds from the coastline will be pushing some of that ocean cool there inland across the region. keeping us nice and moderated as far as temperatures go a little less humid today than we were over the weekend. and less of a chance of sprinkles for us. again, we are looking at the remnants of hurricane kay, which is now just a post tropical cyclone that has been spinning up some heavy rain and thunderstorms for southern california. the greatest risk of any sort of a really heavy rainfall today is really out towards arizona and nevada. both of these spots some flash flood advisories really for most of those states. portions of los angeles county, those upper elevations above the city. also looking at some flash flood advisories, bay area comparatively really quiet. and we're only drying out as this tropical moisture exits the region for us. that is just setting us up for he really nice and comfortable forecast for the week ahead. 60's and

the very worst of air quality up in the sierra nevada from just above sacramento in the east foothills. there on up into the lake tahoe region is where we're seeing some really, really bad air quality here locally up towards calusa county. you do have poor conditions mostly for the bay area. it's just been moderate. you've likely noticed a little bit of haze lately, but compared to some of our neighbors, it's nothing as far as the amount of smoke that is being put up from mosquito fire out that direction. we're being helped out by a westerly wind today. this is going to be pushing its way inland, helping to sweep out some of the poor air, also helping to moderate some of our temperatures. unlike yesterday when we saw a couple of sprinkles out there and not looking at a very active day today, the remnants of all that tropical moisture from hurricane kay, which is now just a post tropical cyclone spinning just off shore of san diego and tijuana has been resulting in heavy rainfall for southern california and then especially arizona and nevada today. most of our flash flood advisories wil

numerous thunderstorms up over the sierra nevada again today. and some of that moisture.n trickling through the bay area. but things kind of quieting down just some passing clouds out there right now. you've got the low clouds and fog down below. you've got some mid to high level clouds. some of the some tropical moisture up above. but kind of interesting here. we've got that big dome of high pressure that brought that record heat that is now move east and all of a sudden now this trough kind of carbon sof out along the west coast and that's going to keep these temperatures down quite a bit. some mild to warm around most of the bay area tomorrow, a fog along the coastline. of course, keeping those temperatures on the cool side. interesting, though, things begin to switch up the long-range pattern here. you've got one area of low pressure spinning off the coastline by wedneshay that keeping the temperatures down a little bit below the average. then as we get the weekend, this will get a little bit closer. that's something to bear models the last run. at least we're paintin

justoso nice to be seeing some light rainfall and light snowfall up in the sierra nevada.o help to dampen that mosquito fire up their help with air quality. the impacts are all very good. as far as our rainfall totals go on sunday, a 10th of an inch possible and livermore in san jose a little more than that mountain view in hayward closer to a quarter or a 3rd of an inch in oakland and san francisco. you head north of the golden gate. all the sudden those totals get a lot more significant. it really is going to the north bay. that's the big winners out of the system. this is adding on top of that monday and tuesday's rain and you can see 2 inches of rainfall at or very most for parts of the north bay hill sides, especially closer to that quarter of an inch. the further south you get in the bay area, regardless of how much rain we're getting here. it's very good news, droughts, only deepening air quality, not good in lake tahoe. we still have fires burning. so this is helpful in all those regards 60's and 70's for your highs and 60's at the coast. it will be 70's along the
