we've had a record snow pack up in the sierra nevada. now you're seeing a system that's melting a lot of that at lower elevations and multiple inches of rain. so we have flash flood warnings up and down the western sierra front as we do see some of the smaller rivers and streams starting to fill up really quickly. we do have i-80 still open, but it is excessively windy and just very slushy and wet up there tonight as temperatures drop back below freezing, we're likely to have some ice formation and lot of roads. not a weekend. you want to be up in the sierra. this is the biggest impact from the storm. in fact, you just see a little strip of blue at the very crest of the sierra nevada. that's because snow level has crept to higher and higher elevations and that heavy rain washing out a lot of that dense snow pack on many of those slopes. as for the bay area, things have quieted down pretty substantially for the north bay. still a few sprinkles here and there for the peninsula in the east bay. most of our rainfall south of san jose and 101,

start and for the sierra nevada, it might be an easy drive up there right now. don't expect that drive home to be quite as nice as we see snow on saturday and sunday. it's all part of this massive system moving its way down from the northwest, the up in the gulf of alaska and bringing with it some arctic cooled air. that's a lot of snowfall. good powdery snow for your skiing up in the sierra nevada. just not the best for your travels. really anywhere. today stays consistently dry tomorrow morning around 06:00am could see a couple of sprinkles for the bay area. really starting to kick up around 08:00am for the north bay, though, some heavier rain. this line of showers coming along a cold front boundary which is also going to result in cooler temperatures. the rest of the forecast and some heavy rain and strong winds throughout the course of the morning tomorrow post noon, we actually clear up really nice. a nice afternoon for us with lots of sunshine. chance of some thunderstorms for the north bay, but looking slim to none for the rest of us evening hours saturda

snow continues across the sierra nevada. think there's a cold systems that have been rolling through over the past couple 3 weeks here and they'll continue to be that way through wednesday morning. winter storm warnings up across the western of the sierra nevada. maybe another one to 3 feet of snow between now and then above 2500 feet. that is a very low snow level. and then even upwards 10 inches of snow at 2000 feet. so extremely low snow and that will see the whole pattern begin to change. but if you're traveling up there the next couple of days, expect major delays and some whiteout conditions from time to time. not going to snow solid up there. that entire period. but you will see periods of some very heavy snow. you see what's going on in the atmosphere uses speckle clouds out there. we've seen that today. we have a nice sunshine and all of a sudden we see some of those showers begin to pick up and move through. and that's where we sit right now. and we're getting into another round of some heavier amounts of rainfall

snow in the sierra nevada. we do have enough snow up there for a winter weather advisory not going to halt but might slow you down a bit as you try to get up that direction. and a couple of sprinkles in the santa cruz mountains. that's really the only thing we're talking this morning. if you are in areas just west of highway 17, you've some light as far as our temps go. it has been cold. we do have our next several mornings with frost advisories for the north bay. it's just been a couple chile next few days as a cold front passes through dropping temperatures into the 40's and 50's for now later today will be topping out in the mid 50's calistoga. you fell to the 30's earlier. now you're back up at 43. well, alameda and concord currently sitting at 51. the biggest issue today is going to be our breezy conditions, not excessively windy, but 25 miles per hour gusts and you'll notice those breezy conditions later on. i'll be talking about the details of this weekend with all the sunshine and our storm next week. a
