wednesday we've got more snow headed up towards the sierra. we've got the trough along the west coast, cool air once again. skies beginning to part a bit so they are going to clear out a bit overnight and i think tomorrow we're looking pretty good. should be a dry day around the bay area, cool and brisk, going to see an onshore breeze. overnight lows, remember we had those record-breaking temperatures. still going to be cold in a few places, a little bit of frost tomorrow morning, not as cold as it has been. you'll see 30s and 40s, coldest spots by day. those temperatures warming up to as high as about 56 degrees. in san jose. 54 in santa rosa. maybe about 56 in fremont. so as we look towards the next couple of days i think we're looking pretty good as high pressure going to start to sneak back in toward the bay area. that's going to allow the temperatures to warm up come monday. we may be talking about some 60s when we turn into the bay area on tuesday, wednesday a few more clouds begin to move in, slight chance of showers, north of the golde

we are going to talk about snowfall in the sierra. they got pounded over the course of the weekend a thick blanket of snow just in time for the holidays. several ski resorts are already boasting several feet for their base. boreal, mammoth, heavenly, squaw valley and northstar are open. others will be opening next month. more snow is expected to fall today. there is a winter storm warning in effect that kicks in late today throughout the day tomorrow. so that's going to make driving difficult if you are trying to get up there for the holiday. might head out early today or wait until wednesday and if you are going to be heading up, bear in mind, chains are required. so the sierra forecast snow showers expected today as well as tomorrow. and look at the dip down in the temperatures for the lows. two below. that's a look at your tahoe forecast. for your traffic this morning, here's elizabeth. >> thanks, tracy. and right on schedule, chopper 5 has joined us and they are live near the dublin interchange showing us traffic on westbound 580

sierra at tahoe opens today. others hope to open by the weekend. >>> in overnight news, a san francisco home now damaged from a fire. firefighters were called to 21st avenue and slope boulevard just before midnight. when they arrived they found smoke and flames on the first floor. an elderly man and woman inside the home escaped along with one of their dogs but another one of their dogs died in that fire. firefighters say they have trouble putting it out because the flames were inside the walls. now part of the home was being renovated at the time but investigators aren't yet sure if that's what sparked the fire. >>> oakland police are searching for two men who sexually assaulted and robbed three roommates. police say the suspects first attacked a 26-year-old woman as she walked near 11th and market streets. then they say the men armed with a gun forced the victim to take them to her west oakland apartment. officers say the suspects also sexually assaulted and robbed the other two women who live at the apartment.

in the sierra a different pitcher most activity is in the sierra most of the snow fall along 50.hain requirements up in lake tahoe. this has pushed to our east. it looks like we will sit high and dry the next couple of days and warming it up by the weekend. current temperatures warmer than yesterday 43 center rosa, 45 napa, the common number for the afternoon highs low 60s. by thursday upper 60s by the weekend into the '70s mild weather had. 6:46 a.m. attack on your commute. >> a good driver on the bay area at the barrett bridge is not so great that back up this building early activation of what looks like slow cycling of the metering lights contributing to this back up. the bay bridge ride not as good as your san mateo bridge ride because there are no backups on the approach here. traffic is getting heavier crosses been no delays or problems are reported. the golden gate bridge ride is a good one take a look here easy traffic on the southbound direction of the pavement continues to dry no problems for marin county or the san ramon valley 680 looks good all the way down danville.

and also, of course, that sierra snow.let's get a look at this system that's going to be causing us all of this trouble this weekend. right now it's a couple hundred miles away. it's spinning right there. that's the center of low pressure. it just loops around, starting to drag its feet and get closer and closer here to california. as that continues to dip down, we'll see those temperatures continuing to go down as well. and that chance of rain as we head into saturday and sunday's forecast. mainly dry through a good part of tomorrow and we'll introduce that chance of rainfall for the evening. and once again, periods of rainfall through the our entire weekend. so the timeline goes as follows. we're dry at 6:00 a.m. then by 6:00 p.m., our first wave of activity rolls across the bay area. then by saturday morning, another area of rainfall starts to move in. then by 6:00 p.m. saturday, we're keeping this chilly rainfall in the forecast here, and that will also, of course, continue into sunday, as we've been talking about. her

the snow has been falling in the sierra nevada.the powder is piling up with 26 degrees in tahoe with heavy snow. 23 degrees in truckee with light show and mount shasta reporting snow. storm warning in effect until 4:00 tomorrow. and back home right now we're looking at a little break in san francisco but it was hovering around 50 degrees here. live doppler 7 hd. and the cold front is around here now with pretty good rain there but wrap-around showers in the beginning of our next cold front is on the way bringing some showers to the north coast. in fact, we've had a thunderstorm around jenner. highway 1 around inverness and santa rosa and windsor. some rain right now and it looks like the rain, heaviest will be this afternoon into the evening hours with temperatures really dropping throughout much of the afternoon. so some high temperatures will just stay in the low to mid-40s in the north bay. elsewhere struggling to reach 50. right now 48 oakland, 43 fremont and mountain view. 38 los gatos. so we are looking at a 24 hour temperatu

the bays will get rain and sierra gets the snow. as far as high temperatures, look where we are compared to average, oakland 9 degrees cooler. redwood city, 11 degrees warmer as far as our temperatures, livermore, antioch, fairfield, clearlake, cloverdale, ukiah, all these temperatures in the mid to upper 40s while the rest of us are in the low to mid-50s. monterey bay, chilled sunshine and cool conditions with low to mid-50s around the bay. tonight another night of freezing cold weather around morgan hill, concord, vallejo, fairfield, napa, san rafael, santa rosa, cloverdale and possibly around palo alto, while the rest of the bay is in the mid 30s to even 40 in san francisco. through 9:00, a freeze warning and have one for the night, east bay valleys and north bay except for the coast and this will be from 1:00 to 9:00 thursday morning. frost advisory, have one this morning until 9:00 and again tonight from 1:00 to 9:00 tomorrow. bay shore and northern valleys, cold front is well to the south, you can see the air pouring in. arcti
