there is silverado trail. so you get an idea here of the location between soda canyon road and the silverado trail. i'll point it out to you along this line, right about here. there is silverado trail. just as we back these out and tint them, you can get the idea of the terrain. this introduces another element, because you not only have the wind direction, you have these valleys and the funneling effect, and with that, the wind can accelerate, and that can cause more problems for the fire crews in the short term. once again, a red flag warning in effect for the north bay, the east bay, and the santa cruz mountains. so fire danger for a good portion of the bay area. these are actually closer to sea level, santa rosa, napa, and fairfield. you can see winds gusting to 29, 38, and 47 miles per hour. and -- 47 miles per hour, and -- 41 miles per hour, and these winds could pick up as we go into monday morning. >> it is turning into a very serious out in here, and with those winds, you don't see them calming down at

abc 7 news reporter laura anthony was in the silverado crest neighborhood in napa county earlier.1:10 yesterday morning this home at al at that mesa and stone mountain circles caught on fire. within the hour the home was engulfed. and the home kept burning past 2:00 in the afternoon. other homes in that neighborhood were spared at that time. >> and this is the house that we were watching yesterday go up in flames even though firefighters were standing right there because they didn't have a working hydrant so they had to pick what was going to be protected so they would pick the house that was next to the one burning because they knew they could potentially save it while the other fire just had to burn out. >> they had to be really careful with what water they were going to use and water has been also an issue for some areas, city of santa rosa has actually issued a boil water notice for the fountaingrove area, residents with no or low water pressure need to boil their water before drinking it just to make sure that water is safe. napa county has confirmed that the atlas fire destr

the silverado country club was highly effected. the fire jumped to the south across highway 121 and it is now burning into areas to the east of the city of napa. >> at this point you don't know what structures have been lost or threatened? >> we don't have a count yet at all. right now we are still focussed on getting people out of the way safely. last night some of the roads were so impassable that we actually used cooperative efforts with the chp to actually use their helicopters who were able to fly some people down from a couple of wineries on the top of atlas peak road.

and that seems to be the theme here in silverardo -- silverado. i was in the neighborhood off the richie and hagan road where there was an incredible amount of homes burned down, damaged. i was actually even at one home that has its own vineyard, and the fire had burned a u-shape around this home and they were lucky because of their space and the fact their vineyards were well man -- it never actually made it to their house. i have seen fire crews coming up and down this road all afternoon. all morning trying to see what homes they can try and save, where they could make sure residents weren't in any danger. but it has been a pretty chaotic scene as you come back live, you can see one of the fire trucks here heading up to go check, probably on the home that had burned down up there. there was a couple next to it that also had started to burn, but were either in danger. it's a chaotic scene in silverado country club and i'm sure all the people sitting at the evacuation centers are wondering if their homes are still standing or not, and it is sad to

one of the areas really affected is the silverado resort.saw dozens of homes, at least 15 homes burned. but it could be more. we don't know the scope of the devastation at this hour. we do know two people died in the atlas peak fire. an elderly couple cannot escape. queen of the valley medical center treated about 50 people for fire related injuries, smoke inhalation and burns. we have seen a number of wineries, historic buildings, burned to the ground. a water pump station has been destroyed in the city of napa and they are asking residents to boil water. some folks here are here because they don't have power or drinking water. not only the folks here who have their homes literally up against the fire have evacuated, but also people who just have homes that are unlivable at this point without any utilities working. the smoke out here is pretty overwhelming right now. we still have a -- ash around. this is more than 24 hours later. the whole community near downtown napa inundated with smoke. we will keep you updated as the evacuees wake up.
