simon mcgregor-wood has more. >> reporter: in pakistan they were burying their dead. at least 24 soldiers killed when a nato aircraft bombed their afghan border. the result is a diplomatic crisis. >> the commander has made it very clearly his highest priority. he's ordered a very detailed investigation into the case. >> reporter: pakistan is furious. its retaliation has been swift and serious. two vital nato supply routes for u.s. forces in afghanistan have been shut down. and u.s. forces will be thrown off of a pakistani air base used for drone attacks against the taliban and al qaeda. u.s./pakistan relations have often been strained. pakistan complains about u.s. attacks against militants on its own soldiers. when u.s. navy s.e.a.l.s found and killed osama bin laden in pakistan in may, relations hit a new low. they may be even worse today. as the crisis erupted saturday, president obama went book shopping. one choice, a book about pakistan and afghanistan called "descent into chaos." that just about sums it up. i'm simon mcgregor-wood for "good morning america." >>>

simon mcgregor wood, abc news. >> police in the philippines arrested four people who allegedly hacked into at&t's phone systems as part of a plan to funnel money to a saudi based terror group. according to investigators, the hackers worked for a group that helped fund a deadly 2008 terror attack in mumbai, india. they say that hacking costs at&t around $2 million. at&t couldn't immediately comment today. the arrest came after a complaint filed by at&t and the f.b.i. at&t said by tuesday, that hack was unsuccessfully attempted to link a mobile numbers with on-line customer accounts. but it's unclear if that incident is linked to the arrest. >> the first of three american students arrested during an anti-government protest in egypt is home tonight. 19-year-old gregory porter stepped off a plane in philadelphia today. porter did not take questions. only saying he's thankful to be back. porter, luke gates and derek sweeney, all students at american university in cairo were arrested last sunday. they were accused of tossing firebombs at security forces but they were released on thursday. d

simon mcgregor with abc news in london. >>> now for americans without jobs, the global economy is the least of their worries. congress is expected to decide soon whether to continue to provide unemployment checks for up to 99 weeks in the hardest hit states. last year 75% of people without jobs were getting unemployment checks. this year, just 48% are getting checks. of america's 14 million unemployed, nearly a third of them have been without work for over a year. more than three million people were kept out of poverty last year because of unemployment benefits. many of the unemployed, however, have been without work for more than 99 weeks. >>> you've heard a thousand times that the state is strapped for cash. while that may be true, there's a lot of money sitting in sacramento. nearly $200 million in federal stimulus money. it's a use it or lose it situation. >> reporter: part of california's federal stimulus money was supposed to help the state's energy sector by boosting renewable energy and weatherizing the homes of low income families. by increasing demand, lots of jobs would be
