lauren simonetti is looking at the second quarter numbers right now.pecting a loss. we got it. looks like it's worse than expected. lauren: r worse than expected and the dow is down triple digits. we were expecting -- i'm giving you the expectation first for eps so you can see how bad the miss was. eps to decline about 48%. $1.87 a share. but we got an adjusted loss of a $5.82. also major miss when it comes to revenue. $15.8 billion was the number. the expectation was $18.55 billion. so these are bad numbers out of boeing right now. i know this is the largest u.s. manufacturing exporter out there with a profile that's much bigger than the 737 max. but that is the squeaky wheel and that's what everyone is focusing on right now. so we're going to see how bruising the grounding of that plane, boeing says they expect it and they gave guidance last week, the grounding to last into the fourth quarter. maybe that will be pushed back into 2020. so waiting for comments on that. and of course the ripple effects that this grounding has on the broader economy. the

lauren simonetti on the costs that are mounting. we begin with rob in morgan city. reporter: hey, charles, if you can hear me there, i don't have isp, i hope you can hear me, but we're in morgan city, louisiana. i've lost my earpiece out here in this nasty storm we've got here. still barry is a tropical storm at this point here in southern louisiana. it could become a hurricane here at any minute. we're about 75 miles east of new orleans which is where a lot of the attention for this storm has been because it is a low-lying area, very populated area. but here just to west is where we're really getting hammered. we're not too far away from the storm which is making its way onshore. we're here on a lake which looks like the gulf, it's just getting pounded so hard. the waves are high, and this is usually just a flat lake that you can ride your boat around on. not today though. here in morgan city we've seen gusts at about 55 miles an hour, sustained winds a little lower than that and a lot of pounding rain as these outer bands and now a little bit closer to center band

i'm lauren simonetti. let us take a look at how your money is moving this morning.going to like it. the nasdaq will open at a record high today. the s&p 500 will re-cross the historic 3,000 level as investors say a july rate cut looks like a lock. cheryl: the 10 year has been sensitive to all things federal reserve including the expectation of that rate cut. as you can see, the yield is 2.04%. actually a small fall today. we have seen the yield on the rise recently. lauren: the oil rally certainly continues. wti at a seven-week high, $60.76 a barrel with a storm brewing in the gulf of mexico, oil platforms being evacuated. cheryl: as u.s.-china trade talks on the phone, we're waiting for more confirmation of further meetings between the two countries. it's green across the screen in asia. lauren: in europe, stocks are trading to the upside as well. it's a nice day worldwide. you have the london market and paris market up a fifth of 1%. cheryl: breaking news to bring to you, iranian military gun boats tried but they failed to seize a british oil tanker in the strait

let's get to lauren simonetti with the numbers. lauren.etter than expected, $2.35 a share for delta versus the expectation of $2.28. revenue in line at $12.5 billion. look at the stock reaction. it is up 2.1% right here in the premarket. now, delta preannounced they would have pretty good numbers and they certainly did. they're in a sweet spot for two reasons. reason number one, they have no boeing 737 max jets that are grounded in their fleet. there is no capacity hole for them to fill. number two, remember the philadelphia energy solutions, the refiner that went on fire and bankrupt just a few weeks ago? well, delta gets most of its jet fuel from the monroe energy complex that they own which is about 25 miles from the other energy solutions complex that went bankrupt. so they don't really have to worry about the availability of jet fuel. so those are two good things for del a take. they have also raised their profit outlook for the year. they site strong travel demand. their traffic in the quarter up 6.3%. so pretty good report from del
