south side second degree, about 50 miles southwest of sioux falls, there's a farmer in freeman who noticedthing wrong in one of his fields. he noticed a patch seemed to be soaked with oil, which didn't necessarily make sense until it turned out it was crude oil and the way it got into the field is it leaked from the keystone pipeline which was underground there. the company that owns the pipeline announced this spill on this farm's field was only about 187 gallons of crude oil. still a lot, but you know. 187 gallons. that's what spilled out of the pipeline into the field. that's what transcanada reported. not quite 200 gallons, just over four barrels of oil. that was the estimate saturday. now it turns out the spill was nearly 100 times bigger. they say it's more like 17,000 gallons. not four barrels but 400 barrels of crude oil spilled out of the keystone pipeline. the spill comes five months after the hugely controversial political decision by the obama administration to reject the rest of the keystone pipeline. transcanada's proposal to build the keystone xl pipeline that would pass thr
