a skateboard competition turned violent after a skateboarder crashed into an officer and into a cop car as well. both the skateboarder and the officer were injured in the collision. and now, witnesses claim the police officer knocked down the skateboarder intentially. it all happened at dolores park on tuesday. police were there responding to assist another skateboarder who had been injured in the unpermitted event. police estimate 2 to 400 skateboarders gathered in dolores park. they were doing something called hill bombing and that's when they race down dolores street on their skateboards at a high rate of speed. san francisco police arrived around 7:00 last night after neighbors called to complain and express concerns about the street racing skaters. tensions rose between the crowd and police. >>[screaming] >> san francisco police declined an on camera interview to talk about the incident, but officer robert told us over-the-phone, quote with the number of people in this park, we could take a defensive stance and help contain it. we were rendering aid to people falling down on their skateboards. some didn't want to cooperate with us, so they just left. officer recka referred to this video. you see a skater collide with an officer next to a patrol car in the middle of the street. he says this incident is under investigation and it is not clear yet whether this was an intentional or accidental crash. recka says after the collision, the skater was moved to the

there was some tension between police and the skateboarders. some borders thinking police got in their way and that's what caused them to fall and get hurt. >> oh! >> police tell me they were just trying to keep the public safe, pointing out the skaters were taking over the street, and there are pedestrians and cars to look out for along with the skaters. police were called to the scene when people complained they couldn't use dolores street because of all the people blocking it. this informal skateboarding competition drew hundreds of people to dolores park last night. there were some big falls, at least two skaters were taken to the hospital after they hit the pavement. participants were not wearing helmets. police say some people threw objects at them. two police cars were damaged. you can see where their windows were broken. dolores street reopened around 9:00 last night. that's when police felt like they had a handle on it and had everyone clears out. no arrests were made. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> we'
