i should say i had some help from david skidmore, which is a public affairs person who took a year offto edit and help me with the research. you know, i got a really quick start and i was done at 14 months. >> some of the most dramatic economy times in history. you probably didn't have much to reflect on your life. so as you wrote over that 18-month period what did you learn about yourself? >> writing the book a big purpose was to think at leisure through the process. in that respect it was very useful. you know, i think one of the things i learned there's a lot of hindsight bias. we all create a story about what happens. this had to happen, that had to happen. you realize that you're in the fog of war, you know, you -- as things are actually happening, you're always trying to make judgment about balance, one risk against another, so i saw myself as a risk manager, somebody who was trying assess involving chaotic situation and finding the right way forward but it was a very difficult to know at any gich -- given time what was really happening. >> i remember seeing a line with somebody
