>> reporter: the idea behind state senator nancy skinner's bill is to tax corporations and ceos, rather than families, in order to help better educate our kids. this corporate tax hike would target the top .2% of businesses in california. they generate about $10 million in net income every year. it would bump up the current tax rate from 8.84% to 10.84%. skinner says this would target companies like google, facebook, chevron and all of the revenue without a to $2 billion. the bill would also target companies who paid their ceos an average of 300 times what their average employee makes. so they would have to pay a rate of 14.84%. if this bill were to pass, it would hopefully prevent things like strikes from happening with teachers demanding better wages and more funding for proper teaching tools. the chronicle reports that measure sb 37 may also offset some of the money that the companies are saving for president trump's 2017
