let's see what's happening in the sky from monday, october 7, to sunday, october 13.he thin crescent moon floats beautifully to the right of dazzling venus, low in the southwest, shortly after sunset on monday, with saturn very low to their right. each successive evening, venus appears a little farther left, while the waxing moon shoots left and upward across the sky. but let's focus on what venus is doing. at dusk on monday, venus blazes just a little right of the star delta scorpii. it's closer on tuesday. and on wednesday, it's right below delta. delta scorpii is a fascinating star. nobody had any idea there was anything special about it until june 26, 2000. that's when argentine stargazer sebastian otero noticed that it seemed 10% brighter than usual. two years later, it had doubled in brightness. delta faded in 2005 and 2006, but it's now back near its peak again, much brighter than the star beta directly above it. there are several things that i find amazing and inspiring about this discovery. it proves that you should never take stars for granted. at first glan

let's see what's happening in the sky from monday, october 28, to sunday, november 3. the waning crescent moon is in the predawn sky on monday, upper right of regulus, the brightest star of leo. it's upper right of mars on tuesday, right of leo's hind leg on wednesday, and very thin and low on thursday and friday. in the evening, look east for the "w" of cassiopeia, then look to its right for a huge star formation that i call the "really big dipper." it looks a lot like the big dipper, now near its lowest in the north, but it's twice the size. the really big dipper combines stars from two constellations -- princess andromeda and pegasus, the flying horse. the real name for the bowl of my giant dipper is the great square of pegasus. i must admit that i have a hard time visualizing andromeda as a princess. she looks to me more like a line of three bright stars with a few spurs running off of it. pegasus is a different matter. he's easy to visualize once you realize that he's flying upside down and his rear half is missing. the great square is his chest. he has two rather

the wing suit diving has been extremely safe just as safe as the normal sky diving itself, then when we go to the base diving that's when we have the more risk. sky divers have lots of training and courses before they can handle themselves in the free fall and then for the wing suit itself we have lots of different training programs and the sport in general is really safe. so it would be fair that it's not so dangerous as you make it sound all the time. >> although i -- looking at some of the things that alexander and others have done it's certainly dangerous. what you're saying is people need to do a lot of sky dives with pair chutes, comfortable in the air before they try anything like this. but you could have some more recreational use the wing suits, jumping out of a plane before opening a parachute right yari? >> that's correct, 13,500 feet and we can fly miles and miles or three or four minutes even before opening the parachute. that can be really, really safe and we actually have some rules and regulations that we have governed that we actually have our pair chutes open at 650
