skyler henry joins us from dc. we will talk about the senate in a moment. first, the house, we are hearing about this red wave. it did not happen. what was the message for voters? >> it is interesting, if you look at how the voters chose to choose their candidates, especially yesterday, they took on a series of issues, from the state of the economy and inflation to abortion-rights. that could have played a factor in how this all turned out. there is also an identity crisis amongst the gop. you have these m.a.g.a. republicans that are out there. those that walk in lockstep with president trump. you also have the moderate conservatives as well that do not necessarily like what the former president has to say. as you look at districts across the country, another thing to look into are the swing districts where democrats held on to slim majorities where republicans thought they would be able to flip some of those seats, especially given the state of the economy. their messaging has been on inflation and other issues around the cost of everything from gas to the

i want to bring in skyler henry live. you have been looking at the candidates final push.ow midterm elections tend to favor the party not holding the presidency. give us some insight on the trends that the polls are looking at this morning. >> reporter: mr. andrews, good to see you. good morning. interestingly enough , president biden was asked about that yesterday, when he was talking with the maryland democrats. he says it could be uphill to maintain the house of representatives control. you talk about the battleground tracker's showing we could see significant growth in terms of republicans in the cities they win in the chamber. that would get them control of the chamber. there is some optimism from president biden that democrats will maintain control of the senate. we are paying attention to ski races happening across the country that are considered tossup's. that is nevada, arizona, pennsylvania, new hampshire, and georgia. but will be interesting there is to see how this shapes up in terms of voter turnout , if the messaging was successful, in terms of the key issues

cbs's correspondent skyler henry has more from washington this is truly fascinating stuff that we haveh these jabs he has made towards governor ron desantis calling him ron sanctimonious, nickname he came up ron sanctimonious, nickname he came up with over the weekend but also calling him an average republican governor with great public relations. he even said that ron came to me in desperate shape in 2017, calling him politically dead, saying that he needed help and an endorsement to get past his republican challenger in that race and ultimately to win the governorship going up against one of the more popular democrats at the time in that race, donald trump ultimately saying and complaining it was his endorsement that boosted ron desantis to get that victory for years ago, so it is actually fascinating here, especially because in the fact that governor ron desantis has not publicly admitted or said that he is going to run for president in 2024, so much so that the former president ultimately came out in his remarks saying that he is actually calling him disingenuous and then going on
