and in fact when i came back to new york to sloan-kettering, the senior staff said you'll be up and walkingyou'll be your old self again. i went from 190 miles per hour to five miles per hour. just that year alone. i had been in africa and had been bicycling across south america. and i'd been fishing all over montana with this pesky backache that turned out to be cancer. i went as i say, to a screeching halt and a considerable amount of pain. i was blessed by having meredith who is a take-charge person in these circumstances, and my oldest daughter is a very accomplished emergency room doctor. and she moved right in and became a member of the team. that's another thing i say to families. if you know someone's a doctor who has medical expertise, get them on your side. they can be notestakers, they can be -- note-takers, they can be interpreters and do additional research for you. in jennifer's case, at the mayo clinic and sloan, the primary team treating me would say, god, she's great. it's just so helpful because for one thing, she could tell them what was going on with me when i didn't. sh
