i'm at the corner of sloat and everglade. this started around 8:15 in the afternoon on the backside of lucky's, a very busy shopping center. we were told it was very busy at that time. one man heard three gunshots and looked out his side window to see one man on the ground and another man running. we're told there were four police officers that responded to the scene. the witness we spoke with says he saw this officer get put into an ambulance. >> he looked injured, but he looked like he was going to survive. he looked like he was conscious, you know. >> reporter: you said his head was bandaged? >> when i looked outside, yes, his head was bandaged, but he looked like he knew where he was. so that's a good sign. >> reporter: again we spoke with sfpd a short time ago and they say that this officer is very, very lucky tonight. you heard that witness say the officer had his head bandaged. here is sfpd officer carlos manfredi. >> he is very, very lucky. we're very fortunate he's going to survive. as you can tell, a 1/2 inch closer
