there are a lot of commissions that could use a small business voice. if we can't get the commissions to change the structure to require a small business sheet. in the short term it might be good for the higher profile commission to utilize our collective effort to advocate for whoever fills that vacancy to be a small business owner. if there is a vacancy on the m.t.a. board or planning commission maybe we can propose candidates in the small business committee to get it done. >> they are unpaid appointmen appointmentsiappointments,like s extraordinary. it attracts folk with no time to run a business on the side. >> there are examples. elgar runs a large organization and is president of the planning commission. it makes it harder. there are people that could do it. >> a well-known architect. when she is not at the commission she is designing buildings. what she has to say is based on fact and what she has seen and done. it gives those people added insight that i think is very important. >> i agree. >> we had an event to start a small business. martha was

small businesses in san francisco. as a result of the ordinance, requesting the department of public health, police department and small business commissionto report. this hearing will represent an important step in the conversation between the city and small family businesses to work together to mitigate the economic impacts of important health policy. in light of the fact that 19 out of 654 retailers who hold a deemed approved alcohol use permit have applied for fee waiver since the ordinance took effect in 2006, it's clear this conversation is overdue. i asked the city attorney to drop amendment to opt retailers into the fee waiver. i look forward to identifying additional reforms to ease the burden on small businesses. and i would like to thank the members of the economic mitigation working group recommending this hearing. i am calling for a hearing on the conditions and impacts of landlord pass through tt petitions. yesterday, the budget legislative analyst showed that tenants in rent controlled buildings are hit with multiple pass-throughs causing their rent to increase far above the limits, sometimes as high as 13% in a single year
