amazon is about to jump into the crowded smartphone market, unveiling a smartphone later this month. amazon tweeted that it is holding an event in seattle on june 18 with ceo jeff bezos scheduled to make an appearance. the tweet included a picture of a thin device with the amazon name on it. it would be the latest equipment from amazon. we helped break the story. adam, a phone is provocative, i think, not just because it is a phone but one wonders what it will cost. like, could it be free? what kind of things will they do to juice sales? >> amazon is a fascinating company, so there will be all sorts of interest in the specifications of the phone, but also the business model that amazon and jeff bezos may have something up their sleeves, a new way of selling the device, priced in a different way. a lot of anticipation in the next couple weeks. >> you also wonder how customized it might be. presumably they will use android software, but maybe not. >> they have been using a variation, their own customization of the android for their other devices like the kindle fire and tablets, gettin

i went for a couple of months and got rid of my smartphone altogether. you learn how few pay phones there are these days. i had no phone at home whatsoever, but i learned a lot about myself for those two months. i learned that the smartphone was a great tool, but i could use it differently. i no longer needed facebook on the smartphone or e-mail on the phone anymore. there were great tools i used before i had music and gps on it. i have twitter on it because i enjoy a quick tweet every now and then. how does it add value to your life? the cool thing about technology is it's different for each one of us. if something adds value to my well. >> blair, how is your year long experience changed how you and morgan and your entire family view modern technology? >> yeah. i can say that i agree with what joshua just said. he touched on it great. you just want to decide how you want to use it. right now we're in that stage he's talking about, deciding what we want to use and what we don't want to use. ultimately it's allowing us to use our tools better we can say.

maybe they a little bit older, they don't necessarily have a smartphone already.f so, there might be a phone market there. >> cory, what do you think? you have been out there all day long talking to people. is anyone going to give up their phone for this phone, the fire phone? >> i don't have a cynical bone in my body. i'm not much of a doubter, but i actually think kedrosky could be very wrong on this. i think this fire fly feature could be really dramatic for amazon in the same way that amazon prime took people that shopped on amazon a lot and made them power users, driving lots of revenue to amazon. this phone could do exactly that. this would allow you to listen music like shazam sort of style. recognize the music and go ahead and order it. similarly, they showed a clip of "game of thrones," these demos are all rigged but the notion is that you could watch a bit of tv and home the whole thing, read the whole thing, secure that for later watching, or something. i think this could be a devise of software that drives a lot of consumption on amazon as a shopping p
