for the smirnovs at the time. so the sons really struggled and, of course, then the russian revolution happens and everything in russia was nationalized. all private businesses were nationalized and the smirnov suffered like a lot of people did at the time, you know, losing really everything. one of smirnov's sons, vladimir was put into a bolshevik prison. he was sentenced to death because he was a capitalist. and he was lined up actually on a wall five different times with the fire squad right in front of him. and they would say, ready, aim and then they would break out in laughter. this was psychological torture. they d this five times and miraculously and truly the only reason why the smirnov brand survives today is because the prison that vladimir was in was liberated. so he was able in 1919 to flee russia. he went to western europe and tried to re-tablishhe brand, not particularly successfully but he did -- he d try and ended up licensing the brand to a russian emgray who was living in the united states . in
