this happened at the smithsonian station tonight. firefighters had to help free the teen. fox 5's karen gray houston is monitoring. >> it was a freak accident at the escalator has been shut down. this all underscores the importance of the warnings we get from metro about being careful wearing flip-flops and other rubber soled shoes. the 14-year-old boy was a tourist, visiting from canada and he was wearing flip-flops. it happened around 8:00 this evening and basically what happened. the teenager was riding down the escalator, got down to the bottom and one of his flip- flops got stuck in the escalator steps. he reached down to try to retrieve it and his hand got stuck. for about 40 minutes. now he seemed pretty stoic about the whole episode. he didn't appear to yell or scream. the boy who has not been identify was with his parents. they seemed as calm as possible, considering the circumstances. metro spokesman says there does not appear to be any malfunction of the escalator. >> the escalator stopped, ems responded and our escalator technicians. they extra extricated him w
