we can tell you that 28-year-old dane smothers jr.r is out of surgery said to have serious injuries to the upper part of his body. he just got out of the academy and was on one of the trucks -- he was riding on engine three when it responded to this northwest. that fire reported around 11:39 last night. it was a row house, quickly became a two-alarm fire. we're told that as firefihter smothers was getting out of engine three to hook up some hoses and begin to run those lines, that is when truck seven, a ladder truck, pulled up and struck him. it is also under investigation in terms of what exactly happened. we don't know whether the ladder truck came up behind or on the side, so they're still working on that part of it but there's still a lot of concern here for his well being tonight. it does seem like he is going to pull through at this point but he may have some life long injuries connected to this accident. now, that as we said, was just one of other major incidents going on in the city. really four incidents in just three hours.
