i'm manager of the long range planning with smta. i'm here to give you an over view for managing the transit fleet within the city. the presentation before you is made up of components from our most currently fleet management plan, which was arrived in april 2011. our 20-year capital plan, approved by the mta board in january of this year, and the five-year capital improvement program, adopted by the sfmta board in april of this year. as maria mentioned we are at the beginning of replacing our entire transit fleet. this is a good time to give you context for requests coming before you in the coming months and years. i will give you a quick overview of our fleet. the purpose of the plan, how we estimate the number of vehicles that are e choired, estimated capital cost and where we are going from here. so mta has over 2,400 vehicles it owns and operators. over 1,000 are the transit vehicles that are the subject of this presentation but there are a large number of other vehicles we manage and maintain. most significantly there are other
