and i want to particularly acknowledge martin spelling as the president of the george bush center at smu for that undertaking. doing this has all been under the wish of senator kennedy. to allow those who participate in history rather than just historians to provide the tone and shading to the words that describe your thoughts and deeds. he was looking for the general spontaneity of the human voice and i think that this project captures that. finally, i think it captures his mother's own advice to him, to tell them that politics is joyous, politics is fun. you take the issues seriously, but the people you enjoy. i think that that comes through. among other things that you will find in the deep and broad transcripts, the senators consequential role on civil rights over 47 years. health care, issues of war and peace, immigration, judicial appointments to name a few. and our continuing collaboration with the kennedy institute, with the senators colleagues and staff and friends has been a real joy for all of us. in addition to james stirling young, who passed away in 2013, i certainly want t
