at the smyrna, municipal park. 47-year-old sergeant steven floyd was with the delaware department of corrections for 16 years. he was a father and grandfather and he is being hailed a hero. when the inmates started to takeover at the correctional center, sergeant floyd warned other officers it was a trap. they escaped uninjured while he was thrown into a closet. >> sergeant steven floyd senior saved lives in an emergency situation. >> reporter: sergeant floyd lost his life in the hostage situation at the delaware prison. four employees were taken hostage, two were released wednesday morning. shortly after 5:00 a.m., officials used a pack hoe to gain entry into building c. where the entrances were blocked by foot lockers filled with water. floyd was found unresponsive and found pro -- pronounced dead. officers paid tribute as his body was taken to the million examiner's office in wilmington. buildings c now a crime scene, each prisoner needed to be searched. >> sergeant floyd's death leads directly to staffing issues that's been going on department of administration through the jack m
