oftentimes i think -- we think of goods -- classic sources like ed snowden. that's a pretty unique, rare event. incredible one where you have thousands of pages of highly classified material that creates this transcendence. most often in my experience outside of the national security, it's somebody who works in the place and is disgruntled. they are essentially a whistle blower. they observed something and they have a document that got to them they are troubled by. it can be a private company. right now i'm helping to rebuild -- expand upon this team at propublica where we cover government tech and civil rights issue. it's looking at algorithms. big data. how the police use surveillance technology and new ways to do that. we sort of span a wide range. there can be people in a local government procurement office troubled by something, it could be somebody at facebook. i think what happens when there intake problem, it's a lovely way to say it, maybe if they accidentally shot themselves in the foot by sending you a message on linked in or friending you on faceb
