this evening, really light snowfall across the metro area. we have been watching that snowfall kind of sticking in the grassy surfaces and keeping it cool around here, a huge dropoff from our balmy 80 degrees yesterday. we have winter storm warnings in place for the northern and central mountains. that will continue until midnight tonight with winter the front range, areas above about 9,000 feet and then across southeastern colorado they're saying what storm? red flag warnings, high wind warning in places like lamar, trinidad. wind gusts out of the north, 30 mile-per-hour gusts in fort collins, 26 in greeley, the northerly winds making their way into the city in the next hour or two. as far as temperatures go. i'm sure you felt the bite in the the interstate, 20s in the foothills now. looking ahead at what we anticipate the next several hours a little bit more snowfall. i have a couple totals i'll share with you in a bit. we're talking about an extremely cold night. that's where we're worried about the roads and sunshine popping out pretty so

that classic sea-effect snowfall. typically whenever we get an area like that, the mountains of central japan blocks any snow from getting over. down toward the south we actually had a low coming in and, yes, that brought us our first snowfall since 1962 in november. quite incredible. snow in tokyo is rather rare. you only see it about once or twice a year so this early in the winter season is exceptionally unusual. how much is going to be coming down? as we go ahead through the rest of the day, looks like in downtown tokyo an additional 2 centimeters of snowfall is possible accumulating on surfaces that are not warm, car tops and table tops out there. looks like the heaviest will be back toward the west. you can see about 15, maybe 20 centimeters. how long will it be lasting? not very long. as we go ahead into the afternoon hours, this is going to taper off. the low is going to push farther to the east and we'll see cloudy skies and even warming conditions by friday. the snow that did come down, it will melt off rath

we could see continued snowfall with the system here. it looks like we will continue to hit the system there. the lull in the morning, but late morning into the afternoon, we will continue to see snowfall, really for a good chunk of the day. with totals here. 1-4inches possible. the elevations of 5500 to 5600 feet. it's a quick-moving system as we mentioned. now something else we have to contend with to the north, the winds. look at this in the valley, we will see winds 10-20 miles an hour. the sustained winds, gusts stronger at 30 miles an hour. up north, the gusts could be stronger up to 40 miles an hour. combine with the snowfall, and the driving conditions will be treacherous up there keep in mind the lows across the state are finally lower than average. we will hit the 40s and 30s for us today in flagstaff. we look in the valley, and our highs are below average as well. it's 70 degrees. we are 7 or 8 degrees below that today. again, the late rain fall total, and take a look as we temperatures dropping tomorrow, and the system will m

kelly ann: here's the snowfall forecast. most of us seeing a few wet snowflakes for late tonight into early tomorrow morning. nothing impressive. as we move out to the west, that's where that grassy coating will be possible. moving especially onto the hills of worcester county and eventually moving out towards those mountains where we could the highest mountains in the northern berkshires and extending through the green mountains of vermont as well. so that's where a lot of that snow is going to confine itself for not only today but tomorrow morning as well. you'll be surprised to see the radar keeping that snowfall very persistent for some of our western locations. here's a look what's going on overhead right now. we do have spotty showers making its way into some of our eastern sections. not the heavy band we were seeing early this morning. starting to see signs of a mix into far western portions of worcester county, but the best snowfall is working through the berkshires and upstate new york. temperatures heading out righ

does this guarantee a lower snowfall amount than normal? of course not, but it is very strong evidence that there may be. and so far this month, our temperatures are above average. now every year, some parts of these numbers and thoughts are simply to convey the averages, to give you a rough idea of what could be. with that in mind, we here in the storm watch 9 weather center believe that this year's snowfall will likely be average to below average, perhaps somewhere in the 40-60 inch range for concord. but as you know, long term predictions here in new england aren't always accurate, so we'll just have to wait and see. i'm meteorologist josh judge, storm watch 9. tom: easier to open the former's almanac. still snowfall to the north and towards nagoya. temperatures jumping back up into friday and saturday. let's look into the tropics across north america. i want to talk about this because this is a very serious weather event out here. we have a hurricane now moving towards the west. big thing is, in central america, you typically don't get hurricane and tropical systems. you get a lot of rain, but nothing organized and nothing concentrated like this. this will be the first hurricane on record to make landfall in costa rica. if it does so here over the next 24 to 48 hours as it tracks west. big rain ker, big flood maker as well. very serious, something to watch out for. back to the north, travel conditions going to be rough in the central u.s. through the mid western states. something to watch out for. widespread snowfall and a few severe thunderstorms erupting down towards the south. all right, i'll leave you now with your extended outlook. ♪ ♪ >>> we have one more story to share with you before we go. it looks like paris has been c

just taking a moment to take it in, because mother nature is sending us snowfall very soon. wind, 16 miles per hour, the highest here, 12 more akron and 12 in cleveland and wooster, but look at the temperatures. here at the noon hour 59 in cleveland. a typical high this time of year, only in the low 50s. 56 for us to enjoy in akron. the day time highs today, my high 64. but remember, off in the wings is the chance for snowfall. it is already occurs well west of home. we will -- occurring well west of home. we front to a snowfall chance by saturday night. so in 36 hour's time we will be very different. but here and now we are warmer. by 10 degrees in wooster, 12 degrees warmer in mansfield and 8 degrees in cleveland. the current temperatures for the start of the afternoon, 58 in mentor, 57 in millersburg and 52 in ashtabula and 59 in mansfield. temperatures will continue to warm throughout the afternoon hours. you will see more and more blue a little haziness still left over. i think the fog will continue to fade. 64 for a high. at the end of november, that gets a thumbs up.

kelly ann: this is more abnormal for us than seeing the snowfall. at this point, we're wondering, okay, what's the deal? some of that snow that brought those blizzard conditions to the midwest will try to creep into our area sunday/monday. yeah, yeah. so a lot of us won't see that accumulating snowfall, but we're going to d few snowflakes can't be ruled out for your sunday night. here's what's going on. we have that storm track moving through the midwest. rainfall is the initial concern as we head into tomorrow morning. but there's a wraparound cool air behind the system. and that is what's bringing that chance of snow which right now is bringing blizzard conditions as we move through much of the great lakes region and that big cooldown as well. as that pushes toward our area, we will see that chance of rain then it's that sunday nighttime period where we could see a few snowflakes even into the overnight and into monday morning as well. right now, things are dry and clear. really not a cloud in sight. that will change this afternoon. we will see cl
