my mom is on social security. the question is how do you keep these promises and make sure you fulfill these programs without totally bankrupting the country. i think the best answer is reforming these programs to bring more market-based solutions to them which brings more choice, competition and brings down the cost escalation. when i ran the house and when i was budget chair, in every session the house passed a budget that paid off the national debt. important reforms to medicaid, tax reforms and budget reforms. there is a way to do this, but we could never get it anywhere else but the house of representatives. it is hard for politicians to touch these third rails of embracing reforms. this and immigration reform are the ones that got away from me. if we solve, we've got a great 21st century for america. getting health care right, which is market-based solutions in my opinion, but the way to do it politically -- i hate saying this -- commissions like the greenspan social security commission -- if it was disavowe
