coming up, will solar city be able to retain its spot?ll be talking about that next as well as twitter. ♪ emily: the company we are solar city, has lost narrowed in the second quarter as the ceo fends off rivals by increasing spending. chris, you cover solar city. it down for us. what stands out to you? chris: it stands -- it comes down to how many customers they can add. 40,000 in the second order bringing the total to over 260,000. these customers represent recurring payments. each customer that pays their bill each month adds to the amount that solar city hopes to collect. in this case they have got over $7 billion worth of payments that they expect over the next 30 years from these payments -- customers they just added. emily: the core market is residential rooftop, but how is it doing in other areas, like commercial? chris: it is playing a bit of catch up to its larger rivals. one of the largest commercial and industrial rooftop developers. just last week they bought the company that is solar city's main rival, the number two install

josh. >> well, melissa, solar city reporting. u saw missing on the bottom line by a few pennies though beating on the top. you talk to fans of this stock they'll say listen, it controls that residential solar market which they say is growing around 50% a year, but also opportunities in the commercial market. the ceo talked about that opportunity on the conference call. take a listen. >> entering the small and medium commercial market. neglected by the solar industry. we're able to bring down the cost with a combination of doing the installation work ourselves and our unique commercial hardware mounting system. >> another key metric in that earnings report, solarcity saying it installed 189 megawatts of capacity. one megawatt can power about 160 homes. it expects to install 263 megawatts in q3. melissa, back to you. >> thank you so much, josh lipton. for more on solar city let's bring in r.w. baird, senior equity research analyst. ben kelly's got a buy rating on the stock. great to see you. >> thanks for having me on. >> it sounds

the solar impulse 2 landed in hawaii friday completing the longest and most difficult part of its mission. its next stop is the cityphoenix, arizona. our david malco has more on the expedition. >> reporter: extraordinary moments as the solar impulse 2 touched down on the tarmac in hawaii after a flight that lasted almost five days and five nights across the pacific ocean all the way from japan. remember this is a plane that flies without a single drop of fuel and it was piloted by one man, a swiss engineer andre borschberg flying in that cockpit all day and all night, alone, without a break, using yoga stretching and breathing techniques to try to relax, also taking 20-minute naps when the weather conditions allowed. there was one evening in particular when there was a lot of turbulence about four days into the flight so he didn't get any sleep at all. you can bet he's happy to stretch his legs and see his family there on the ground in hawaii. now, this is an extraordinary journey. it's an around-the-world trip that began in march all the way in abu dhabi, and this is just one piece of that journey around the globe
